The Pakistanis must lead very boring lives

Seriously. I mean, they are still protesting the cartoons.

More than 20,000 supporters of a radical Islamic group held a peaceful rally against the publication of Prophet Muhammad cartoons Friday in an eastern Pakistan city and accused the government of being “soft” on the West over the controversy.

“The government should have taken a hard stance against those countries where these cartoons were published to insult our beloved Prophet Muhammad,” Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, the leader of the Jamaat al-Dawat group, told the mass gathering at a park in the city.

Yes, the government should’ve nuked Denmark for its insolence. Grrrrrrrrrrr….

“Sylvia? It’s Nasreen. Are you going to the protest? No, I don’t know what they’re protesting, but you bet your ass I’ll be there. I told Mr Personality that he hadn’t taken me ANYWHERE since that time I had my gallstones out, so we’re bloody well going!”

If it pleases the honorable members of the Sandmonkey supporters club I move that we send as many calenders as possible to Pakistan immediately to prove to them that we have actually passed the 20th century. All those in favour ?

What if 20.000 people voluntered to work for one day (as a protest) and send the money to the earth quake victims?
And the 3 prices on a head of a danish cartoonist. Wouldn’t it be more rational to give them to the earth quake victims? Somebody must be willing to behead a cartoonist just out of devotion.

Irfan Hussein is a secular Pakistani columnist whose columns appear regularly in the KHALEEJ TIMES (of Dubai, a first-rate newspaper whose columnists — reprints I assume — include Henry Kissinger and Noam Chomsky.) While you are there, read last week’s column as well, with one of the best discussions of the Iraq War and the ‘bad-worse’ choices the US has. (I think both you and I could agree on some of this.)

    wild-colonial,

Only the evil western Christian calendar (in a conspiracy of course with the Jews) has passed the 20th century, remember? Islam is 6 centuries behind on that count.

I’m sure Pakistan is quite progressive for the 14th century!

    Doh !

“Pakistan is quite progressive for the 14th century!”

Only a few places in it are. The rest are mired in even darker times in the past.

Pakistan is just one bullet or bomb from being the West’s worse nightmare.
