People who leave Islam are crazy people

In order to save face in front of the growing international pressure to release Abdul Rahman, the afghani who was getting the death penalty from a court of law for converting to christianity, the Afgani government came up with the most ingenius solution to release him without looking as if they can be pressured by the “evil western christian zionist forces”: They declared that Abdul Rahman may be too crazy to be sentenced or tried.

An Afghan man facing the death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity may be mentally unfit to stand trial, a state prosecutor and presidential adviser said Wednesday.

And a presidential advisor. did you ctach that part? This is not political at all!

But prosecutor Sarinwal Zamari said questions have been raised about his mental fitness.

“We think he could be mad. He is not a normal person. He doesn’t talk like a normal person,” he told The Associated Press.

Subtle. Very subtle.

This will make the christians and the western world happy, because the guy doesn’t get killed; and it will make the muslim world happy, because, hey, the guy is crazy. Of course he converted to christianity. Only crazy people would leave Islam for christianity. Right?

Right! LOL

You know who won;t be hapy about this? The evil Joooz. They, after all, were behind this from the start. Foiled again you Jooozzz. HA! We are starting to wisen up to your evil Jewish ways! Now how do you like them apples?
Oh Well! Who cares anyway? As long as the guy doesn’t die, and the muslims don’t look like a bunch of cruel bloodthirsty people, all is well in my world. My advice Mr. Abdul Rahman? Keep your mouth shut and get the hell out of Afghanistan. Just because the state won’t kill you, doesn’t mean someone else won’t!

“We think he could be mad. He is not a normal person. He doesn’t talk like a normal person,” is that his professional opinion? :)

Hi there. For me as a german it’s hard to understand how people in the 21st century can get punished for changing their religion… Many people have died in the fight for religious freedom for hundreds of years in europe. Accusations like this of Mr. Abdul remind me of the darkes centurys of the middle ages and the inquisition ending up with an stack of burning wood and the heretic on top of it…

    So long -> Andi

Did’nt they lock people up in the very old days in the USSR? Calling them mad if they did not accept communism?

For those interested in how the other side thinks this has provided some interesting information. The first is that Afghanistan is still strongly muslim in a fundamentalist way, at least in some respects. Next we have a way out for the Afghanis from a deep hole filled with shit and finally of course it’s political (see point 1.) but there was a willingness to both defuse the situation and save face at the same time. Commonsense prevailed when it could have become a situation where people would question the reconstruction effort, the level of independent democracy Afghanistan has really attained Vs the Taliban rule and the level of willingness of the people concerned to view this matter in a pragmatic way. Despite your sarcasm Sandy I agree with your last paragraph, good job, now get the hell outa Dodge.

Now it makes sense. We must never forget their magnificent humanity, in not cutting of his head. I for one am truly impressed. Islam is now moving out of the middle ages. Into the late, late middle ages. Why in another five centuries one can only imagine the wonder, knowledge, and beauty that is to be reckoned.

I was wondering how the fundementalist would crawl their way out of this one.

Unfortinately, this individual sounds far too articulate to pass as a nutbar. Maybe if he drooled a little more for effect. :)

  7. Prup (aka Jim Benton) Says:

I hope that this ploy works to free Abdul Rahman, but I also hope that the West doesn’t forget the story if he is freed. The law will still be there.

LOL, thanks for the good news, and the apples.

  9. Luke Says:

If he is spared because he is “mad” he loses his rights as a citizen. So he keeps living, but he is a second class resident. The case is only partially won.

Am I the only one who finds the depressing side in this? Just means next time it happens, they’ll be damn sure it can’t get world-wide attention and then make sure to make an example of the poor bastard. :(

And I agree, Abdul Rahman needs to not only get the hell out of Afghanistan, but out of the Middle-East if he can.

Just so everybody on this site knows:

I have heard this ploy MANY MANY times before.

People will say that anybody and everybody who converts from Islam is “certifiably insane” it’s the only way they can justify it in their simple minds. Isn’t that pathetic?

This guy isn’t crazy he just has giant brass balls, that’s all!

  14. naivecitizen Says:

    Hi Elengil

I googled Kabul orphanage and came up with this
    http://www.charityhelp.org/sponsor/rawa/
RAWA: Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan
They work with some people in the US
    http://www.rawasb.org/
I have no idea if their money are used for administration or if the money in fact goes to the children, but the US co-workers must be able to answer relevant questions.

I agree. I am happy that he now has a good chance of being released, but I still wish the international community, especially the US, will pressure afghanistan to abandon it’s barbaric sharia laws, but without rahman in jail, the process will lose it’s momentum. It’s a double edged sword.

  16. Thus spake I Says:

Technical question, I would appreciate an answer: Does this same death penalty apply in Egypt if lets say I publicly announced that I’m an immoral faithless bastard ??? I have’nt heard of any “crazy” Egyptains speaking publicly about their secret conversions, becoz it is a damn crazy thought to go public about that stuff in Egypt or the Middle-east in general. But lets assume, there’s this stubborn ideolgical “si3idi” that wants his true faith or non-faith stated on his ID… { p.s Identification cards issued in Egypt state your religion ( to arouse more religious discrimination) }… would it bereaucratically work?

    Thank You!!!!

But that’s not discrimination, or Surely the UN would have condemned it. :rolls eyes:

I can’t have been keeping up with the news lately - have the Taleban taken control back in Afghanistan?

Earlier this month President Bush told the Afghan people their democracy was taking hold: “You are inspiring others and the inspiration will cause others to demand their freedom.”

Has the freedom loving Afghan President Hamid Karzai been overthrown - or is he quite happy to talk with Bush about freedom while executing anyone who leaves the Islamic faith?

  24. Peter Says:

Many interesting comments here. Good article and many find comments. Things just get so much better when you can read 62 comments to an article you just read and that you can respond.

First it is outrageous for most westeners to hear about death penalty for converting from islam to christian.

Second, I like the pragmatic perspective of seeing the positiv in the goverments willingness to defuse the situation and save face and life, but if the system does not kill you, the religousmob might, there is no guarantees, run for peace and freedom.

Evil things are happening in the name of islam. The tyrranic teachings of islam must be defused some how, but how? War is probably one way, but it cost a lot of blod and money and time, so we would prefer fewer of them and apply other solutions to the problem of voilent muslim people.
