Regardless of what I think of Brigitte Gabriel and her views, the story of what happend at her lecture in Memphis is worth mentioning for a specific reeason: It demonstrated how Modern Muslims should and shouldn't act in the face of criticisim, even one that they consider to be extremely inciteful.
It took 10 police officers to keep order last month when Brigitte
Gabriel gave a speech at Memphis University.A passionate and powerful
speaker who had witnessed Palestinian terrorism and experienced
anti-Jewish and anti-Christian propaganda in her native Lebanon, Ms.
Gabriel had been invited to speak at the Tennessee campus by religious
studies professor David Patterson.But the day before Ms. Gabriel's speech, Mr. Patterson began receiving threatening e-mails.
"Do you honestly think the scheduled lecture will serve any
useful purpose other than inflaming the Muslims, insulting them and
spilling poison in the community?" one message said. Another said that
inviting Ms. Gabriel to speak was "worse than hosting of the Imperial
Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan," and another described her as among "the
true enemies of Islam."
Interruption: Isn't the grand wizard of the KKK called David Duke? Don't they have him giving lectures all over the middle-east, especially Syria, on how bad and evil the Jews are and how they control America? I am just wondering here! Ok, keep reading.
When Ms. Gabriel and Mr. Patterson arrived in the campus
auditorium 15 minutes before her scheduled presentation, several rows
of seats in the front of the room were already occupied by men and
women dressed in distinctive Muslim clothing.
Before Ms. Gabriel was introduced, a Muslim man who has been a
long-term graduate student at the university strode to the front of the
room and announced: "We have been told that the speaker will only
accept questions written on cards. Everyone who believes this is an
undemocratic lecture, raise your hands." The Muslims in the audience
shouted their agreement.
Ms. Gabriel then went to the front of the room and announced
that the lecture belonged to her and that all who did not see it this
way were welcome to leave. Two campus police officers stood, one on
either side of her. They also called for backup. By the time order was
restored and Ms. Gabriel began her speech, 10 police officers were
posted in the room. Mr. Patterson implored the audience to give her a
chance to be heard.
After her speech, she answered every question submitted –
questions she described as "Palestinian talking points" — before the
Muslim audience members swarmed onto the stage and surrounded her,
yelling angrily at her. Finally, police officers grabbed her and
hustled her out a side door. Someone else had to retrieve her coat and
suitcase while she waited in a police car to be driven to the hotel
where, for security reasons, she was registered under a fictitious
name.
Only after she had locked her door and drawn the curtains, did Ms. Gabriel allow herself to begin to tremble.
"The intimidation takes a toll on you," Ms. Gabriel said in an
e-mail message to friends after the Memphis speech. "I was dreading
this all day, ever since my hosts told me they had been receiving
hostile e-mail about my lecture. It was weighing so heavily on my
heart. My stomach was in knots. I got a migraine headache. I knew I was
going into battle, and there was no way out of it. I was nervous and
stressed. Each time this happens, I hate it and it makes me feel that I
don't want to do it anymore. But I will do it. I will never stop. If we
stop, the Islamists will have won. We cannot allow that to happen."
Ask the questions you want, protest the lecture outside, but don't cross the line and swarm the stage in anger and threaten a woman/ or a man that you may have every reason not to like. I mean, we already have a stigma of being incredibly emotional, incredibly violent people; this is not the way to make this image go away or to answer your critics. you know?

I live in Memphis, TN, and this was never reported in our daily newspaper. I can’t believe I have to read a national paper, or visit an Egyptian blog to keep informed about events in my own city. How disappointing. It’s no wonder we alternately call the Commercial Appeal the ‘Daily Fishwrap’, the ‘Daily Birdcage Liner’, or the ‘Daily Flyswatter’.

There it is then. I’ve been searching and searching for the “majority”, “moderate” Muslims.
I electronically jumped down to the land of OZ to read their forums. Figuring the farther away from the Middle East the more moderation I would find and the peaceful majority would make itself abundantly obvious.
Sadly, that’s not what I found. Quite the opposite in fact. The majority appear to be wrapped way different than I could ever imagine.

I partially agree with you regarding the stance of moderation in Europe, but in the “Great Satan” America, its a completely different story.
The cartoon intifada is a good example. In Britain, there were signs calling for the death of anyone who insults Islam. In America, there were protest, but they were truly peaceful.

I have a lot of respect for Brigitte Gabriel. She is truly a courageous and remarkable woman. I know there are many good Muslims out there, but the behavior of most sickens me. They act like a bunch of thugs. When I they don’t like something they threaten violence or accuse people of racism and Islamophobia. But when they do something offensive to others they demand that you show them respect, be tolerant of their “culture”, or to just not paint them all with the same brush. Muslims think they have a right to have anyone speak who says the most disgustingly vile things about Jews and Israel, but they won’t let anyone speak on behalf of Jews or Israel….because that would just be fair.
Muslims will praise the nazis for what they did to Jews, while at the same time denying the holocaust , while at the same time accusing Israel and Jews of being Nazis.
I just get these people. They are irrational and have no logic.

My own personal experience.. I have a couple of Muslim friends, one who has been in Canada for over 20 years.. when ever a discussion of Muslim problems comes up he ALWAYS takes the side of the Muslims, no matter what the problem is or with whom.. My comment to him is that the only time he supports any sanctions on Muslims is when it is applied by other Muslims, much like the Aeab League vis a vis Sudan..
I’m begining to believe there are NO moderate Muslims, and that the west will have to deal with Islam accordingly..

Well, I just got finished listening to a local radio show on this topic. The man who went up front to make the announcement about the question procedure was a guy named Omar, who said he is NOT Muslim. THAT was really odd to me.
Omar said Brigitte Gabriel was a bigot, but had the right to speak.
Anyway, the man who organized the speech said that no one interrupted Ms. Gabriel after she began. They have police in attendance anytime anyone speaks that has any ties with Israel, or speaks in support of Israel. Some of the attendees may have gotten confrontational with her afterward for some of her previous pieces that have been printed at FrontPage Magazine. There was no physical contact.

Muslims are not bad people but its their history which is their worst enemy. The problem is the religion develpoed in a era where the spread of islam happen so rapidly and completely that after a mere fifty years or so Islam control was all of the middle east african and was incroaching into spain. Now for a good seven centuries they were at the top of the food chain and had control in trade that spread all the way to india and china. No one dared war with them and those that did (crusaders) hardly made an impression. Then two centuries ago europeans invaded and pretty much took over. The muslims I think still live in a bit of a fantasy about their apparent power and influence and ability to govern well (for they did it successfully for centuries– and better than their european, chinese or hindoo counterparts). But they need to wake up because times have changed. They are nolonger the confident educated and self assured mullahs that looked after ninth cenrury granada but increasingly erratic, corrupt and paranoid leaders of poverty striken nations. They live in a arrogent fantasy of some vague but long passed cultural superioirty and if they dont wake soon the surrounding superpwoers of india china and europe will take over. Muslims just need to get with the programme!

The defintion of a good Muslim is debatable. I would characterize a “good Muslim” as someone who is honest, rational, open-minded and tolerant whose religion is Islam. I can think of a few people who fit that description: Sandmonkey, Irshad Manji, Arabian Knight, and Salim Mansour. As for their locations…I can’t help you out there. I consider these people to be true moderates, not your typical poser “moderates.”

For six years, my friend known as Joseph has lived in first a tent with other asylum seekers, then over-crowded refugee camps and since August 2004 forced to live on the streets of the Netherlands as an illegal alien. Like Abdul Rahman, his crime was to convert from Islam to Christianity. If he is deported to Syria, he will be beheaded; if he remains in the Netherlands, he dies a slow death from malnutrition and exposure to the elements.
Secular Europe and Islam have joined forces against Christianity and then turn on each other. Lord help us all. R

Islamists Post Hit List of ‘Apostates’
An Egyptian group calling itself the “al-Jama’ah Consultative Council” has sent an e-mail hit list to people deemed ‘apostates’ yesterday. The group warned that those people on the list who had left the faith would have three days (as of yesterday) to repent or they would be killed. The group also warned that the wives and children of the Muslim apostates were being followed & would be killed.
Under Islamic Law, the maximum penalty for apostasy is death.
The list includes prominent Muslims living in the West who have spoken out against violent Islamic extremism and intolerance, some still living in Muslim countries, as well as Coptic Christians who have advocated equal treatment in Egypt.
According to Copts-United (hat tip: Clarity and Resolve) the group issued the following threat if the ‘apostates’ did not publicly repent:
we will follow them everywhere they go and at anytime; and they can never be far from the swords of truth, and they are closer to us that our shoelaces.
They are monitored day and night. We are fully aware of their hiding places, their houses, their children’s schools, and the times when their wives are alone at home.
We gave our rules to the soldiers of God to execute the rule of God so that their blood can become close to God [to kill them] and burn their houses.
And we thank God that many of those infidels and atheists do not exist in the land of Islam, so that they do not defile the Islamic land with their rotten blood. They are in the land of infidelity, the land of idols, pagans, and Cross worshippers: in America, Canada, Switzerland, and Italy.
If they existed on a spot in the Islamic land, let us wash the places of their slaughter and beheading seven times to purify the Islamic land of the impurity of their blood. And let us captivate their women and enslave their children loot them. Let us apply the Islamic rule to them; and whoever kills one of them, will get his loot.
The fatwa was signed by Abu Dhur Al-Maqdishi, media commander in Al-Jama’ah.
The list includes:
Wafa Sultan — American Muslim psychologist who has spoken out against jihad, the silence of mainstream Muslims over terrorism, and the treatment of women in Islam. Sultan lives in the Los Angeles area.
Ahmad Subhi Mansur (Mansour)–a liberal Egyptian theologian condemned as an ‘apostate’ because he accepts only the Quran as authentic and rejects the sunnas. Mansur argues in his book “The Punishment of Apostasy” (out of print) that religious liberty is fundamental to Islam. Mansur’s wife and children are also specifically threatened. Mansur live in the Virginia.
Adly Abadir — Egyptian born Christian Coptic priest, exiled from Egypt and now living in Switzerland. Abadir is an outspoken advocate against the subjegation of Christians in Egypt and has testified before the U.S. Congress on the plight of Coptic minorities living under the thumb of Muslims.
Jamal Al-Banna– moderate Egyptian theologian & brother of the founder of the Muslim Bortherhood who publicly disputes traditional Islamic teachings about the treatment of women & jihad, but like most Muslims justifies aggressiona against Jews. Al-Banna is probably under condemnation for his firm stance against dhimmitude and for freedom of religion and for his creation of the “Committee for the Defense of Victims of Terror-Fatwas”
Majdi Khalil– American Muslim who has spoken out against terrorism and those that justify it in the Islamic world.
Hasan Ahmad Umar– former President of the Egyptian Court of Appeals.
Muhammad Sha’lan— possibly the same Dr. Muhammed Sha’lan who is a professor of psychology at the oldest and most prestigious Islamic universty in the world, al Azhar.
Father Zakarias Butros– Coptic priest living in Holland who runs a website devoted to standing up for Christians in Egypt, against attrocities committed by Muslims against Christians, and which invites Muslims to engage in dialogue.
Sa’d Al-Din Ibrahim– liberal Egyptian human rights activist , board member of the Ibn Khaldun Center, and Professor of Sociology at the American University in Cairo. Ibrahim is a leading human rights activists who was arrested by the Egyptian government in 2000 to the applause of Islamists around the world. He is accused by Islamists of being a ‘Zionist’.
Salah Muhsin–Egyptian who has spoken out against the Muslim Brotherhood.
Dr. Shakir Al-Nabulsi — a Jordanian born liberal Muslim, chairman of the American Academic Association in Jordan, and co-signer of an anti-Islamist petition to the U.N calling for an end to the preaching of violence against apostates. Nabulsi now lives in Denver.
Al-Afif al-Akhdar–72 year old Tunisian born French secular Muslim. The Tunisian Islamic movement Al-Nahdha, issued a death fatwa against the him for his book “The Unknown in the Prophet’s Life”. In addition to exposing the hypocrisy of Muslims on terrorism, Akhdar has also been at the forefront of exposing the political motivations behind Muslim regimes using the Danish Mohammed cartoons to drum up anti-Western sentiment. Call it what you like, but it is not a war or TERRORISM, civil war or unrest. It is purely a war of Muslim vs. Jews & Christians. Mulslims are very “Right wing” conservative and intolerant of other’s views. Jews and Cristians are both Right & left wing conservative, liberal and very tolerate of other views, cultures and religions. America, was founded upon religious freedoms. The so called war on Terrorism, is really a war about Oil. Oil, the U.S. discovered in the middle east and went about developing and sharing the profits with the middle eastern countiries. Then when the shares were not fair in midlle eastern opinions, there was an embrgo and higher prices ensued. These rich oil middle easterners sent their sons to America for schooling and when they returned to the middle east they had been somewhat westernized. They swore, drank, had sex out of wed lock and did drugs. This infuriated the fathers’ of those sons. This also led to further tensions. Coming full circle, the very liberal anti war democrats in america seek to protect the Mulsim, who given half a chance would slit their throats and laugh while they died. The conservatives see more of the full picture, the Terrorism must be stopped. but without the oil, the World’s economy is crippled. Initially the Oil companies and the U.S. government were in BED TOGETHER for the oil. Just like Manual Noriega, Saddam Huessien & Usoma bin Laden the problem is one in which we fostered, raised and allowed to happen, in a word Shortsightedness! There is only one of 2 solutions. Wipe out Islam, which I personally don’t think is rational or tell islam and the middle east to take a hike, develop our own oil reserves and tell all those liberal tree huggers and conservationists to move to the middle east with all those peaceful muslims that you want to protect so badly.

I had read in on of the Lebanies news paper that Ms. Brigitte gaberil had a muslim boy friend when she was 14 years old and she getting even with him.
we belive that ms. Gaberil lacks the knowledge and the expertise but she just

I just don’t know what to write here. How can a whole community just sit and watch while big organisations and people with titles are attacking them telling them that they should not excist. Terrorism, extreemism and so on has become a synonim for the religion of Islam. And that is absolutely redicilous, there are billions of muslims around the world and I see muslims everyday. ANd none of this muslim people have ever done anything to me ore my family… I have heard Ms Brigittes speaches and it seems like she has memorized her speach saying everything word my word the same thing over and over again. I do not know if the things she is telling is the truth, but I do belive that she is speaking out of hate towards the muslims. Encuraging hatred and also war, and that is very hypocritic for a person who sees herselfe and talk about herselfe as somebody good and siviliced.
But a any kind of animal in a cage and harass him and you will see that the animal will become agressive and protective. I have seen a vicious progress through my life, how did Palestinians go from being called fugutives to terrorist? Well, there is a simple explanation and that is the generations of Palestinians being mistreated and mislead. There is No such thing like “one way arab thinking”..You can’t say that all arabs are bad ore evil. This is propaganda at his best. And it is unbelivable that a woman like that gets a plattform, where she can spread hatred.

I’m almost finished with Ms. Gabrielle’s wonderful book. It’s MUST reading for every American and European (and Muslim, for that matter). It’s intelligent, well-documented, interesting and crucial for us all to read.

She is an amazing lady, all the respect for her, she is attacked left and right by muslims and they are doubting her story,because they are blinded with hatred and they are brainwashed , I believe everything she is saying, I watched her Videos on Youtube , what a smart and strong lady, I wish muslims would wake up and become moderate but I guess it is a wishful thinking. Brigitte is right, the fanatics and terrorists and islamists and jihadists are here in the USA and they are more fanatic than the one overseas. My friends we are in real danger and what is the government doing to protect us? those people are a ticking time bomb and they will do harm to any one no doubt. Wake up people, islam comes from the word peace but it has nothing to do with peace, on the contrary it has to do with violence and evil and killing.

This woman, Brigitte Gabriel clearly was scarred by some traumatic events in her childhood which she hasn’t gotten over and which cause her to want to lash out at those she holds responsible. But the way she talks about Arabs, Moslems and Palestinians as homogeneous groups betrays her true nature — which sadly is that of a racist. Anyone who puts all people in a category as she seems to in her speeches is, in a my book, purely a simply… a racist. And I don’t listen to racists.

Ms. Gabriel has the courage to say what needs to be said because she has lived it. Unfortunately people in this country have their heads in the perverbial sand(no pun intended). If one thinks what happened to the Japanese in WWII was bad, wait ’til you see what happens to innocent, moderate Muslims who want to live in peace and practice their religion as it was conceived by Mohammed. I resent the terming of Brigitte Gabriel a racist. Maybe her word usuage may slip (humans make mistakes) but her overall position is about an intolerant culture: Traditionalist Islam or if you prefer “Radical” Islam. - - - “A tolerant culture (The West) can tolerate anything except an intolerant culture” whether it is “Radical” Islam or Nazism.

I am shocked by some of the comments about Brigitte Gabriel.As a Canadian I thank her for warning me about the dangers of Islam.Her testimony about repression in her homeland has being verified.She speaks the truth and is a good Christian woman.The true God ,who by the way is the Lord Jesus Christ not the Muslim god allah will bless her.Islam treats women like dogs,promote hatred,encourage war on whoever is not a Muslim,support slavery,and hate democracy.In 55 Muslim states there is not 1 democracy.The koran has 783 hellfire verses and around 109 war verses.WOW what a peacefull book.NOT! I encourage anyone to read SECRETS of the KORAN by Don Richardson to be enlightened about this false religion.Canada as well as the United States are going to be in big trouble in the future if they don’t smarten up!Mohammed was a liar,a rapist,a murderer extorsionist,pedophile,just to list a few.Hey if you don’t believe it then look up his history and the history of how Islam began .I will close with a quote:Koran 4:89 Seize them and put them to death wherever you find them.Also Koran 47:4 adds cut off their heads and bind them.The list goes on!Wake up before it’s too late!!!!!!!!!!

“Moderate Muslims” is an oxymoron. Read the koran.
Muhammed was a radical, murderous, polytheistic pedophile…at best.
The koran allows the killings of those who leave the “faith,” as well as the murder of those who oppose it. Why is everyone surprised we have planes going into buildings and people dying daily in the name of islam? Many disagree the teachings of the koran are up for interpretation….but remember, there’s never been a schism in islam. I don’t see how the verse: “slay the pagans and kill the infidels (k 9:5)” could possibly be interpreted any other way.
Jesus and Ghandi weren’t big in to murder. In fact, they both said the first thing we should do is; love.

What Cory and Mike said. Islam is a war cult started by a man who committed heinous crimes. There is no peaceful Islam except among heretics who reject Mohammed’s Koran and Ha’dith. And that is not Islam at all.
Koran requires unification of religion, army and law in a dictatorship.

I just read the emails and whatever Briditte said/says why take her word for anything? Read the Koran (equivalent to a Christians Bible) and you will then realize that it clearly states Muslims goal is to convert all living people in the world to their religion. Muhammad who wrote the Koran inspired by Allah (their God) orders them to KILL anyone who does not convert. ANYONE who is a practicing Muslim and believes and follows the Koran is clearly an enemy of yours - unless you don’t want to live. This is not a matter of practicing your choice of beliefs here people - these are people who clearly want you to reform and join them (in as they say the true religion) or die!!! I’m sorry folks but I like being an American BECAUSE we have freedom of speech and freedom of choice to follow our religion, no religion, other interests - whatever and I respect others even if I don’t agree but this is an entirely different “ball of whacks” folks. I am not nor ever been prejudiced against any nationality but I sure am against Muslims who believe and follow the Koran!! Come on people get connected and read/listen to middle eastern sites that quote their “news” being broadcast - - they are laughing at us. We fight against ourselves (true) and they are using our own freedom and our people (liberals) to get sympathy. Don’t defend anyone unless you know what you are defending! If any middle eastern people in this country are true to the U.S. and not a Muslim stand up publicly and make a stand. At least that is the way I feel but then again if they are scared to do (fear of death or their families death) this I don’t know. Look at Gabriel she is making a stand and trying to inform us and what is happening to her?
This is the US where we have based this country on the belief that all men are equal right? We accept all types/kinds of folks to feel free to follow their own paths - right? That is what is so wonderful about what we stand for, right? But then along comes the practicing Muslims who want to CONTROL you or kill you - why are you defending them?

I’m astonished to see how Islam is gaining more and more ground in Europe. They are the fastest growing religion here and soon it will overpass Christianity. That’s absolutely scary!! Unfortunately this religion is based on non-tolerant attitudes, ie phobia against the different. There’s no freedom or choice out of it… We’d better watch out before it’s too late!

M.D.L: I love to ride my harley in the summer. It feels good and it feels free. It is really nice to have that option. On the other hand freedom is a word a lot of people know nothing about.The suppresion of islam denies basic freedoms for their following especially the women.They say follow us or die and back it up with the koran. The koran is a piece of work. Totally ridiculous. On the other hand we have the BIBLE as the true word of GOD which teaches us to honor and love one another even our enemies. The koran on the other hand says to kill anyone who disagres with the so called prophrt Mohammed’s teachings. We all know the guy was a complete idiot and a pervert. Just check out his lifestyle. I’m probablly going to have to fear a suicide bomber is going to show up at my door to thank me for the truth. Anyway I could on forever! Find your freedom in the LORD JESUS CHRIST who alone will give you true happiness and the gift of eternal life. He is the only one who came back from the dead to prove that he was GOD in the flesh. Oh by the way mohammed never came back and there is no parole in HELL so you won’t be seeing him soon!!!!!!

It only goes to show that those in the wrong cannot handle the Truth. It’s like the illegals, they cannot handle the truth that they are here wrongfully and when criticized, they call you a racist.
The mu slime radicals etc. are a violent cult here in America to destroy it like they tried in Lebanon in the 60’s before Israel had to intervene because the mu slime’s were slaughtering all non (mu slime) members. The radicals are working on doing the same in England, France, Denmark, etc. and are here in America underground working on doing the same thing. You need to read 2 Corinthians 4:4. Terrorists some 13,000 have been smuggled in through Mexico at $25k plus per person funded by mu slime’s. Colleges throughout the U.S. are given millions of dollars by the Saudi’s oil money to open muslim centers etc. to bring down the system from inside. America is blind to what’s happening. She in her lectures, is truthful and those hiding in the dark don’t want the light on them so the only way is to threaten her with violence etc.
We need to pray that the love of God of the Bible changes the hardness of their hearts and they turn from this Satanic cult with their wanna be Muhammad as a Messiah.
