The Islamists Hitlist

In case you didn't hear of this, a number of anti-Jihady arab intellectuals (muslim, christian and secularists) have received a group e-mail death threat . Unlike the other run-of-the-mill death threats, they have a reason to take this one a little more seriously:

Asharq al Awsat spoke to several recipients of the email and asked them about their reactions to its threatening content.

Dr.
Wafa Sultan, who lives in California , pointed out that the source of
the latest threat differed from the dozens she had previously received
because it was made by a group and not an individual. She expressed
fear for her life as the message included personal information about
the recipients, as well as the names of some of their spouses and
children. Sultan vowed to inform the U.S authorities of the email and
seek their protection.

This was sent to their own personal e-mails. Whomever sent it knows a lot about those people. Here is what the e-mail said :

We are the
supporters of the Prophet group. After our debates and discussions with
our brothers, the commanders of the Islamic groups and organizations in
the Islamic land, and after their reviewing of what we reached at in
the Jama’ah Consultative Council about our judgment against the
infidels, the apostates, and those who separated from the Islamic group
and allied with the Cross Worshippers and attended their conferences
and sided with them against our shaykh’s and ulama’s and requested
that the rule over our countries should be their right and dealt with
the Israeli sons of pigs and apes, Al-Jama’ah Consultative Council
decided to grant those who are charged with apostasy and denying
religion a three-day grace period to announce their repentance,
renounce their writings about denying the sunnah of our prophet and
supporting the countries and the rulers of the infidels, and declare
this repentance and inform people about it on the same news sites on
which they wrote first, and not to repeat such sayings and deeds and
writings again.

If they do not respond to the God and His Prophet, we
will follow them everywhere they go and at anytime; and they can never
be far from the swords of truth, and they are closer to us that our
shoelaces. They are monitored day and night. We are fully aware of
their hiding places, their houses, their children’s schools, and the
times when their wives are alone at home. We gave our rules to the
soldiers of God to execute the rule of God so that their blood can
become close to God [to kill them] and burn their houses. And we
thank God that many of those infidels and atheists do not exist in the
land of Islam, so that they do not defile the Islamic land with their
rotten blood.

 The list includes :

Wafa Sultan — American Muslim psychologist who has spoken out against jihad, the silence of mainstream Muslims over terrorism, and the treatment of women in Islam. Sultan lives in the Los Angeles area.

Ahmad Subhi Mansur (Mansour)–a liberal Egyptian theologian
condemned as an 'apostate' because he accepts only the Quran as
authentic and rejects the sunnas. Mansur argues in his book "The
Punishment of Apostasy" (out of print) that religious liberty is
fundamental to Islam. Mansur's wife and children are also specifically
threatened. Mansur live in the Virginia.

Adly Abadir — Egyptian born Christian Coptic priest, exiled
from Egypt and now living in Switzerland. Abadir is an outspoken
advocate against the subjegation of Christians in Egypt and has testified before the U.S. Congress on the plight of Coptic minorities living under the thumb of Muslims.

Jamal Al-Banna– moderate Egyptian theologian & brother
of the founder of the Muslim Bortherhood who publicly disputes
traditional Islamic teachings about the treatment of women & jihad,
but like most Muslims justifies aggressiona against Jews. Al-Banna is
probably under condemnation for his firm stance against dhimmitude and
for freedom of religion and for his creation of the "Committee for the
Defense of Victims of Terror-Fatwas"

Majdi Khalil– American Muslim who has spoken out against terrorism and those that justify it in the Islamic world.

Hasan Ahmad Umar– former President of the Egyptian Court of Appeals.

Muhammad Sha’lan— possibly the same Dr. Muhammed Sha'lan
who is a professor of psychology at the oldest and most prestigious
Islamic universty in the world, al Azhar.

Father Zakarias Butros– Coptic priest living in Holland who runs a website
devoted to standing up for Christians in Egypt, against attrocities
committed by Muslims against Christians, and which invites Muslims to
engage in dialogue.

Sa’d Al-Din Ibrahim– liberal Egyptian human rights activist , board member of the Ibn Khaldun Center, and Professor of Sociology at the American University in Cairo. Ibrahim is a leading human rights activists who was arrested by the Egyptian government in 2000 to the applause of Islamists around the world. He is accused by Islamists of being a 'Zionist'.

Salah Muhsin–Egyptian who has spoken out against the Muslim Brotherhood.

Dr. Shakir Al-Nabulsi — a Jordanian born liberal Muslim, chairman of the American Academic Association in Jordan, and co-signer of an anti-Islamist petition to the U.N calling for an end to the preaching of violence against apostates. Nabulsi now lives in Denver.

Al-Afif al-Akhdar–72 year old Tunisian born French secular
Muslim. The Tunisian Islamic movement Al-Nahdha, issued a death fatwa
against the him for his book "The Unknown in the Prophet's Life". In
addition to exposing the hypocrisy of Muslims on terrorism, Akhdar has
also been at the forefront of exposing the political motivations behind
Muslim regimes using the Danish Mohammed cartoons to drum up
anti-Western sentiment. More on Akhdar here.

Killing those whom they view as an ideological threat. It's reason 3 why I am an extremist , remember?

The third and final reason lies in the nature of this ideological war,
and how it unfairly favors the islamists, simply because they will not
allow themselves to be defeated. You see, they view themselves to be
absolutely in the right; the agents of God on earth so to speak. So any
dialogue with them will not be fair, because in their minds they are
the right muslims and their oppositions are the ones who are misguided
and who have to prove themselves. Not to mention, if you manage to beat
them in a debate- which is easy- they will not just concede defeat and
accept your points. They will view you as a threat to “God’s will” and
subsequently they will view it as their duty to get rid of your infidel
Kafir Islam-hating ass. This is why people are afraid of debating them
or attacking them; they fear for their lives and they don’t want to get
killed. I say screw that. I say fuck them. I say if they have no
problems killing those who oppose them or their ideology (i.e. Us),
then we have every right in the world to kill them back. Hell, it would
be self-defense. And that’s why I am an extremist; because I would
rather kill those who have no problem killing or threatening people
(i.e. YOU) who don’t conform to their views. I value my and your life
over those who preach death, and since I want to live and want you to
live, I have no problem with the death preachers dying. I say let’s see
how this debate will go when their Death Fatwa heads start getting
killed back. I say until they stop and abandon the method of killing
those who oppose them, we shouldn’t have any moral qualms at all about
killing them as well. It’s self-evident, yet hard to swallow, and
probably too Manichean to the average person, but someone has to do it
for all of our sake. I get that, and that’s why I am an extremist.

I still stand by every word.

    I am an extremist also.

  2. Chip Says:

    You’re a breath of fresh air, Sandmonkey. Not to get all Mr. Egypt, but people like you give me hope.

    I would rather be thinking of new plants for my backyard than fighting a battle for civilization or trying to find creative ways to interpret religious texts so people don’t kill me.

    My idea about religion is that it’s great for some people and whatever floats your spiritual (that’s in your head, not laws about cartoons) boat is fine with me. Crap, this is 2006. Shouldn’t we be deciding on the first Muslim to Mars, not debating who owns (because God says so) (good luck proving that by the way) this or that piece of this rock we’re on now?

  3. JordanR Says:

    You the man SM! Here is some lovely news to get your blood boiling:

    http://www.nisnews.nl/public/120406_1.htm

    “Govt Advisors: Embrace Islam, Tackle Allies”

    A Netherland’s official government policy advice… here are the money-quotes:

    “Schoonenboom advises “an adventurous foreign policy” for the Dutch government. “We must support the moderate Islamic powers much more, such as the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and Hezbollah in Lebanon, instead of secular movements without prospects in Muslim countries. We must talk to the Palestinian regime of Hamas. They are democratically elected. It is a terrorist movement, but so was Arafat’s PLO. And the IRA in Ireland.”

    (Lebanon will be thrilled)

    “On the other hand, we must be much more critical regarding our friendly countries. We must address Russia more forcefully on human rights violations in Chechnya, Israel for its decades of ignoring UN resolutions and the US regarding Guantanamo Bay. In the Netherlands, there has practically never been a debate on the reasons for the invasion of Iraq and the Dutch support for this.” (…) “We must also get rid of hypocrisy. We protest if one Christian is sentenced to death in Afghanistan, but what do we do if it is a Muslim?”

    (Its official, all the problems in the Netherlands are because of the Americans, Russians, and Jews… not the terrorist. I knew it!)

    Sorry SM, according to the Netherlands, YOU are the enemy and the Muslim Brotherhood is the answer. I am so conflicted. On one hand, I like freedom of religion, sexuality, economics, and political choice. But on the other hand, I really like pot.

    The Netherlands win, SM… you gotta go :)

    Now that the Netherlands has embraced the terrorists and learned to blame the west for all of the worlds problems, don’t they deserve admission into the Arab League?

  4. Dom Says:

    Hey SM, thats some heavey shit, never realised until I read some of your last posts how much pressure moderate or reformist muslims like yourself must be under in trying to express themselves politically and make a difference. Good luck and peace be upon you!

  5. Scott Says:

    “We are the supporters … with their rotten blood”

    Good lord if that’s not a run-on sentence what is?

  6. Jane Says:

    thats a serious threat

  7. Tater Says:

    He SM, while on the subject of jihadies, do you get “South Park” over there? It’s a cartoon here in the states the satires everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. They just released an episode last week slamming the Muslim reaction to the Danish cartoon controversy. Part two of the episode airs tonight if you can view it. Given the extent of the Danish Controversy, I’m surprised there hasn’t been an Arab reaction–maybe it’s not broadcast in the Arab world. I hear you can download the first part and view online here:

    If not try this:

    This is the snarkiest cartoon ever made, right up your alley
    Enjoy

  8. Tater Says:

    Should say “that satires everything”
    sorry

  9. Tommi atkins Says:

    I was surprised that Wafa managed to leave the country after that interveiw she did.
    I was thinking niggily little doubts about Islam’s response to open Apostacy. Escpecially after the Afgan-US-installed Government managed o reverse a death sentance for Apostacy after massive international pressure.

    But hey , its ok really, they just needed time to get organised. Death threats in abundance in the name of the religion of peace and tolerance.

    Thanks Sandmonkey for showing theres some hope for muslim born people being able to think outside the loop, you take care.

  10. kat-missouri Says:

    well, I was surprised Sandmonkey wasn’t on the list. Happy, but surprised. Apparently, we haven’t boosted your visibility enough to warrant a fatwa or other judgement of apostacy/torture/re-education/death.

    You must be severely depressed by your continuing underground popularity and inability to break into the mainstream apostates club.

    You’re still number one in my book. ;)

  11. alexander6 Says:

    It is interesting that they only target Middle-Easterners. There’s no European or American. And what of Danish cartoonist kafirs? They deserved death as of last month, I think. I suppose this is a special message to once muzzled critics- we can reach and will threaten and intimidate you wherever you live. One of the reasons Sandmonkey is anonymous, no doubt.

  12. yochanan Says:

    thank you for posting this.

  13. Alex Says:

    Looks like Israel is an “extremist” also, now I’m agreeing with their policies toward terrorist leaders more than ever…

  14. The Arabist » The hitlist Says:

    [...] Sandmonkey reports that a previously unknown Islamist group has sent emails targeting a wide range of people, many of them Egyptians, with death threats. The list includes Muslim secularist Saad Eddin Ibrahim, Coptic activist Adly Abadir, Muslim thinkers Gamal Al Banna and Ahmad Mansour, and more. As one comment on Sandmonkey’s site puts it, “that’s some heavy shit.” [...]

    Dude, what does secular Muslim means anyway? isn’t it an oxymoron?
    I am personally an atheist and would be really pissed if somebody would call me a secular Christian or anything similar.

  16. Papa Ray Says:

    Am I wrong in thinking that most of these guys are what could be called “extremists“?

    The BBC says: “Gamaa Islamiya was once Egypt’s largest militant group”. Of course they call terrorists and murderers “militants”.

    This seems disturbing to me, where are these guys going to wind up, and what will they be doing, and to who?

  17. Roger in CA Says:

    You know SM, we can get rid of the Taliban, we can dump Saddam, and we may even end up bombing Iran back to the stone age, but sooner or later you extremists are going to have to step up to the plate and do something about those religious crazies over there. Otherwise you will be on a hit list sometime and that would be a drag. Sure gonna miss you and BP.

  18. Curt from Houston Says:

    If these nuts want to face the West with their religious idiocy, they may want to check out this American Civil War song from the 19th century. Some of the spirit of this song still exists in the US. I don’t know how pertinent this is but it just seems appropriate after that grotesque diatribe these pin heads sent to their more rational brethren.

    The Battle Hymn of the Republic
    Julia W. Howe, 1861

    Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
    He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
    He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
    His truth is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

    I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
    They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
    I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
    His day is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

    I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
    “As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
    Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
    Since God is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

    He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
    He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
    Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
    Our God is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

    In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
    With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
    As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
    While God is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

    He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
    He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
    So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
    Our God is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

    If the Jihadis continue in their current direction, they run the very real risk of reawakening this sentiment in the US. While I’m not a religious person myself, I’m starting to get an appreciation for the religious fervor the Islamofascists espouse. They may want to think about what will happen if they provoke the West into a similar mindset.
