My blood boils at the story to, but even more at the second ‘anonymous’ comment on it. The man should be punished as severely as the law allowed, of course — assuming the allegation is true. (It probably is, but the reason why we have things like courts and the ‘rule of law’ is to check things like this out.)
But the response may go to explain why I have been so adamant in my position that I am ‘anti-Islam’ but not ‘anti-Muslim.’ (And why I support multiculturalism when properly used, and merely oppose the mindless misuse of it.)
The obscene arrogance of this ONE man is not, by itself, a condemnation of Muslims OR Islam. (It would only be such if he attempted to justify his actions by claiming a right given to him as part of his position as an imam AND he was supported by the local Muslims. This has not been shown.) It is no different from the sex abuse scandal or the Jim Bakker frauds. It is possible to look to the religion to see why they were so successful, but it is not, in itself, a condemnation of Catholicism or evangelical protestantism.
But there is an awful lot of truly vicious anti-Muslim hate out there, hatred for the people and not the ideas. (And almost all of it comes from the right side of the spectrum.) These haters will use any excuse to physically bash Muslims, and they aren’t going to know, or care, whether they are bashing a crazy imam like this or YOU, Sam. That’s why I have to yell against the bigotry that instances like this feed as much as the incident itself.

Here’s an idea, someone sponsor me to go beat up that Imam and I’ll do it with pleasure. Believe me, by the time I’m done with him, he and all his cronies will think twice before laying their hands on a single human being, male or female, adult or child. Seriously, we need to beat up JUST ONE of them, the rest will get the message. But if we do NOTHING, then how dare we complain if it happens again, eh?
Makes me sick. I finished work and starting checking out blogs for THIS?????

Perhaps its time we re-considered what it means to be an Imam. It’s not enough to be a religious scholar, you have to be a social worker, a mediator, and on and on nowadays. But the training hasn’t changed with the times. Perhaps that way, we wouldn’t get psychopaths like this guy.

I don’t want to see this guy punished by law. I would rather see some “rough justice” meted out by the community. Vigilatism isn’t right, I know, I know…
…but still.

Was this poor girl an evil jew that she deserved to be beaten for a simple mistake? An accident?
Where is eee’s outrage over the treatment of his fellow muslims now? Where is his disgust at the barbarity of his own Imams? Or perhaps the outrage was somehow justified at her ‘occupation’ of his little 2×3 square of land hm? Did she drive him off it with her presence and thus he was forced to defend himself?
Makes your blood boil, sandy? Makes my stomach turn.

We don’t know need any hyperbolic comparisons between the treatment of this girl and the treatment of the Palestinians by “sinister Zionazi thugs.” He is like that clown Robert Fisk, he can’t help but take a swipe at the US or Israel over practically any subject, no matter how remotely related it is to the subject at hand.

BTW, does Nihad’s mom have bruises over her eyes - check out the eyebrows. Maybe the imam just doesn’t like women. I could be tacky here but I’ll refrain from further comment, I’ll say nothing about other men and camels.

Vigilante attacks are _not_ what is needed. What is needed is the rule of law - and physical violence like this should be a crime resulting in a long prison sentence, just as it would in Europe or the US. The man should be arrested, tried, and if found guilty, imprisoned.
But probably beating up small children is not illegal in Morocco.
