No more women pics in saudi newspapers

By order of the king nonetheless:

King Abdullah has told Saudi editors to stop publishing pictures of
women because they could lead young men astray, newspapers reported
Tuesday.

[...]

The king told editors on Monday night that publishing a woman's picture was inappropriate.

"One must think, 'do they want their daughter, their sister, or
their wife to appear in this way?' Of course, no one would accept
this," the newspaper Okaz quoted Abdullah as saying.

"The youth are driven by emotion … and sometimes they can be led astray. So, please, try to cut down on this," he said.

Why this announcement now?

In recent months, newspapers have published pictures of women —
always wearing the traditional Muslim headscarf — to illustrate
stories. The stories usually have had to do with women's issues.

The papers have also started publishing a range of views on causes
that are not generally accepted in Saudi Arabia — such as women having
the right to drive and vote.

Oh no. Women drive and vote. Blasphemy.

What do you expect from a country where women can not sell other women lingerie because it may lead to hellfire and sinning?

sigh…

It is a source of great shame to me that we in the West (Europe and the USA) do everything we can to keep this toerag tyrant and his corrupt exploitive family in power. It is perhaps little wonder that we (collectively) have such a poor reputation, and such little influence (derisive military might apart) with the other regional tyrants who are engaged in the same scramble for baksheesh.

I say - no more talk: lets go and straight things out in the Middle East!
What can it take - 10 years of war, then 20 years of de-brainwashing the region?

Saudi King Places More Restrictions On Women

Why is it that “With exploding populations, and offering little hope for either material security or personal freedom, unelected governments in the Gulf, Egypt, and northern Africa have allowed their press the single “freedom” of venting popular fru…

    The solution is SIMPLE!!!!

BAN WOMEN!!!!! Ship all females out of the country.

US feminists could take them in, teach them to drive and raise them right.

My roomie thinks you could sell them to China as brides in those villages that have a shortage of women.

The Western media totally mistranslated what King Abdullah said. He in fact said that Saudi newspapers should refrain from sensationalizing the news and avoid using pictures in a tabloid sort of way. He did not ban us from using pictures of Saudi women. I should know since I’m an editor at Arab News in Jeddah!

Read my entry on this from my blog, Rasheed’s World: http://rasheedsworld.blogspot.com/2006/05/brazil-gang-violence-leaves-115-dead.html#links
