Unblock Eve

The Saudi female blogger Eve just had her blog blocked in Saudi thanks to the valiant efforts of the Saudi male Blogistanis who really hate to see women expressing themselves over the inetrnet, or like, anywhere. The other saudi female bloggers (Aya and Farah to cite an example) are fuming over it, not to mention afraid that their blogs are next. There is, however, something we can do to help: Go fill this unblock request form . Enough people fill it, and she gets her blog back, thus sending a collective FUCK YOU to any Saudi male asshole who thinks he has the right to tell Saudi women what she can say on her own damn blog.

Thanks for posting this. I hope the Saudi authorities will listen.

The unblock request form is a great idea, but do you really think Saudi chauvanist oinks will listen to that? I think it’d be smarter to fight fire with fire….they claim that Islam is the reason to censor Eve, and perhaps, if enough people sign the form, Eve will be uncensored as of, let’s say, next week….but that doesn’t guaruntee that they WON’T censor anyone else….so I say- going back to the fight fire with fire issue- we get enough references to prove that Islam never enforced censorship…yes, there is a certain amount of Islamic ‘adab’ to be followed….by those who want to follow it….however, Islam as a religion allows for rebuttals and discussion, not for censorship….sort of like the Salman Rushdie incident….his stuff shouldn’t be censored, but if people disapprove of what he wrote, they should write a book in reply to it….ok, I’m just rambling now….so I’ll stop. Any suggestions as to how to do this?

  3. Drima aka SudaneseThinker Says:

Darcy r., if they block and don’t want to unblock just start a new blog.

    Filthy chauvinist pigs!!

For every single blog they want to freakin block, start 10 new ones.

    Filthy chauvinist pigs!!

I love it when Islam becomes the excuse.

    Filthy chauvinist pigs!!

It’s just so wonderfull isn’t it?

    Filthy chauvinist pigs!!

    Arrrrgghhhhh… fire with fire huh??!

    FILTHY CHAUVINIST PIGS!!

Would a signature from an Israeli help in Saudia? :)

    Tse.

  5. SAM Says:

I filled out the unblock request and all I can say is ARGH!!! I Love Saudi Eve, what the hell? I know, I know. The men in her life can lord this kind of power over her… but it still does not make me any less frustrated for her.

  7. RW Says:

Well I put in the “request” but I had to hold back from doing a bad imitation of our fine sandmonkey and his snarkyness.

But maybe illuminating on the backwardness of these dopes will have some positive affect.

Okay, I doubt it but it’s always a good idea to shine a light on the primitives.

I’m sure it would not. In fact I’m not sure if #1 Asher Abrams will help since he’s a Jew. I would sign it too but I think if they find out that I’m Jewish it won’t help either. Tell me if I’m wrong SM because Jews are usually pretty good at mobilising with causes like this.

  9. Cindy Says:

Hmmm… I think they’re onto this because the links to the unblock form don’t seem to work now. Yikes.

  10. shlemazl Says:

    SM,

We’ve got Mufti of Egypt telling us that in Muslim countries wives like a good beeting here. Apparently “they desire this control, which is a sign of musculinity”. That’s what Allah told him. On the other hand Allah in Canada you can’t touch a woman. Not even with a toothbrush. Damn!

    Is the translation accurate?

  11. Joni Says:

    Look at this!!!

  12. Vic Says:

    Done.
But I approached it from a little less antigonistic direction. I suggested that her blog was harmless expression of feelings, and that by blocking, made the Saudi govenrment look overly dominant of the freedom of expression. We aren’t going to teach the Saudi government a new way of thinking. We just want her blog back.

An Real Life’ Internet Version Of ‘Fahrenheit 451′ ?

Only the Saudis would think of coming up with a updated version of Fahrenheit 451 - just for the Internet! Ray Bradbury’s got to be jealous!!!

Why did you delete the other blog?

  17. raf* Says:

    dear sam et.al.,

i think that the i.s.u. form should only be used by saudi citizens. spamming it with unblocking requests by non-saudis will only be counterproductive, as it may very well cause the i.s.u. guys to think that saudieve’s blog is, indeed, a subversive blog.

Let’s face it….the case for the corrupting effect on Saudi moarilty of a FEMALE !!! Saudi blogger (shock horror)…is very strong. After all the Saudis have covered their women from head to toe, prohibited their participation in the work force, voting, driving etc… it’s only a matter of course to block their blogs. I mean, no one in the Kingdom wants Saudi females uprising led by Bloggers such as Saudi Eve !!!!
What could one do to fight such backwardness and primitivness that defies comprehension in the 21st Century ??

  22. Vic Says:

raf in #17 may have a very valid point. This is why I tried to not be overly reactive, in my comments. I do suggest we approach this carefully. While we do want to help her, we do not want to make matter worse.

[...] From there, I clicked on Saudi Eve and there I was even more intrigued to find that she had returned to Saudi to find that her blog had been singled out and blocked by the Saudi ISP. What had happened? I followed the trail from her blog to Farooha’s Sowaleef to the Egyptian Sandmonkey and then to Aya’s. Within this ring of bloggers, one might follow the discussions surrounding the block on Eve’s blog. [...]

  25. Mystique Says:

Funny how things in Saudi Arabia are. Can’t write myself, can’t read others, and can’t liberate thoughts even “online”…
I wonder if Saudi Eve’s blocking, was due to someone initiating it, or was it just done by the ISU.
And I do believe they will NEVER look at those unblock requests!!!
But why not give it a try!

  29. Dark Sun » A Tiny Bit of Pushback in the Saudi Blogosphere Says:

[...] Some Saudi bloggers and some other Arab bloggers have rallied to defend her, and are encourging people to fill out this official “unblock request,”  with the idea that if enough people fill it, she will “get” her blog back, which in turn will send a giant “fuck you” to “any Saudi male asshole who thinks he has a right to tell Saudi woman what she can say on her own damn blog.”  Some have suggested that only people with a Saudi citizens should fill out the form, thinking that “spamming it with unblocking requests by non-saudis will only be counterproductive, as it may very well cause the i.s.u. guys to think that saudieve’s blog is, indeed, a subversive blog.” [...]
