ZARQAWI IS DEAD! WOHOOOOOOOOOOO

*This post is staying up for the rest of the day in celebration*

Ding Dong the asshole is dead! Zarqa is dead (He got killed on 6/6/06 nonetheless, anyone else noticed that?). The bloodthirsty Jihady fuckhead is no more, and is hopefully rotting in hell as we speak! Good-bye douchebag, it couldn't have happend to a more appropriate person!

I'm dead, Bitch!

Time to get the bubbley out! This calls for a celebration!

Update: So, the moment that Zarqawi dies, Oil Prices fall and the dollar rises . Makes me wonder what would've happend had this been Bin Laden. Hmmm…

On the lefty hater side, we have the DailyKos people, who were quick- as usual- to be negative over the whole thing . Whatever. American readers, did you know that  the word "Kos" in arabic means literally "Pussy"? Quite fitting, don't you think?

eee may need grief counseling over this. His idol is dead.

  2. rated r superstar Says:

Dead my south end…in 8 hours they’ll announce it was a mistake and that he’s still alive. Tomorrow they’ll be more massive slayings in iraq carried out by Zarqawis adherents. In a week, he’ll release an audio recording to say he’s still ‘da man’. If none of that happens, then maybe it is true and his services are required in hell.

  3. tommy Says:

According to Counterterrorism Blog, it has been confirmed using fingerprints, facial recognition, DNA, and the like.

    http://counterterrorismblog.org/2006/06/abu_musab_alzarqawi_killed_in.php

It definitely appears that they confirmed it well this time. Furthermore, he was reportedly injured during a helicopter strike and taken alive. He died of his wounds shortly thereafter.

  4. Crazy White Boy Says:

Awsome, that is until they consider him a martyr and decide to f**k up a bunch of innocent people. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the little F**k is wormbait, but all the rest of those jihaddy idiots are going to get jealous of his 70 virgins, and try to get there with him.

Arg, enough rant, must go to work!

  5. Mark Says:

Good riddance! Long live Iraq! Victory to the Iraqi people. Now one less person that wants to kill Iraqis to achieve their own goals is dead. This is the best news in over two years! Hopefully the killers in Iraq loose heart and leave now. Let Mesopotamia begin anew a city for all humanity!

  9. infidelirious Says:

I bet bin laden has a case of loose stool this morning.

Is it just a coincidence that al-zarqawi was killed on 6/6/6 !?!?

  10. BornIn1965 Says:

Oh dear, what a shame. I wonder if those 72 virgins were there waiting for him in heaven…………….

  11. jonny Says:

hopefully his corpse will be sprayed with pig blood and his fluids replaced with pig fat.
rest in the hellfire for eternity, Z-man.

  12. Hyscience Says:

Oil down, dollar up as al-Zarqawi dies

Al-Zarqawi, two women and five of his male aides were found in the house used as a hideout after it was struck in an air strike.

  13. issandr Says:

Sometimes I wonder if your attacks on “leftist” sites like Daily Kos are motivated by the need to please your fanbase on the American right — the kind of people, like those at LGF, were supportive of ideas like invading all Arab countries to convert them to Christianity, or regularly carry out ad hominem attacks on Arabs and Muslims that can only be described as racists. Yes, many of us Arab Muslims are frustrated with how bigoted and frustrating our people can be. That doesn’t mean we should embrace those who insult all of us. You live in Egypt. You know there are plenty of reasonable people who are not jihadi fuckheads. Why indulge assholes who know nothing about our part of the world and think that Bin Laden is representative of us?

Regarding Daily Kos: obviously there are many other “leftist haters” around, like the British foreign minister, the Associated Press, etc. I’m delighted Zarqawi is dead, all for the killing of more like him, but it is a little early for triumphalism. And by the way, I think the founder of Daily Kos is a former soldier — not quite a pussy.

Didn’t mean to lecture or anything. You know I like your site and link often. But I just don’t see the sense of joining in the mindless frat-boy cheerleading of people who essentially seem to hate Arabs.

  14. The Observer Says:

See what happened when someone mess with Jordanians? :P

Good observation! He died on 6/6/06!

Does that mean he was actually fighting for God, and Satan win on his day?! lol. Or maybe Satan wanted to get some of his followers in that day to celebrate with his so he took his soul.

Neverthuless, I dont condone killings. I dont like feeling relieved for any killed human being. I just hope this terrorism may come to an end one day.

  15. tommy Says:

And by the way, I think the founder of Daily Kos is a former soldier — not quite a pussy.

I’m a former soldier too. But Kos is still a pussy.

  16. Louise Says:

Oh my God. Was it really 666? Too perfect!!!!!

  17. tommy Says:

No guys. It is was 676, I believe. Sorry.

  18. Louise Says:

rated r, this is the first time officials from both the Iraqi government and the US government have held a press conference about his death. All those other occasions were just typical Middle East rumour mill, in response to which both country’s officials urged caution and could not confirm. Hell, even al Qaeda itself has confirmed it, pretending they are happy that he’s gone to his 72 virginians.

  19. The Sandmonkey Says:

    Issander,
Ok, first of all, it’s never too early for triumphalism, especially when it comes to that asshole. The Iraqis are happy that he is dead, the Jordanians are happy that he is dead, Hezbollah are happy that he is dead, even the people at al arabiya comments section are happy that he is dead. I think it’s safe to assume that everybody’s fuckin happy that he is dead. So excuse us while we rejoice in the death of the symbol and posterboy of the Jihady fuckheads. If there is a time for triumphalism mr. al armani, this is fuckin it.
As for Daily Kos, hmm. I dunno if you have noticed my personal politics, but , yeah, me and them do not agree on defense or budget issues. We sometimes agree on social issues because I am a libertarian, and thus socially liberal, but even that is not a guarnteed thing. Not to mention, the level of fuckin whining on that blog is just too much for my tolerance. And I don’t care if they were founded by a freakin Navy Seal, they still sound like whining pussies to me.
Now, as for your accusation that I do it to please my fanbase, nigga please. Is that the best you can do? Why is it that whenever any of you feels like attacking me they speak about my readership. Dude, I have all kinds of people commenting here, and I have crazies from all sides of the spectrum. I do have many right-wing American readers, that is true, but to brand them all as “racists” while complaining that they generalize about all of us is nothing short of hypocritical. The majority of the people who do come here are seriously concerned by what they see as a threat to their way of life, and by that they mean wahhabist Jihadi-sim. I tend to agree with them on that front. I never said that all of the arab muslim population are Jihady fuckheads, and they never claimed that either. Where you got that, I have no idea!
But you did ask a good question : why do I bother with “assholes” who know nothing about our part of the world and think Bin Laden is representative of us? Hmm, let me think. Because NOBODY EVER FREAKIN TALKS TO THEM AND TELLS THEM ANY DIFFERENT. You ever think they think this way because not enough of us are coming out against the Jihady fucks? Do you ever think that they might be justified in think this about Bin Laden, given his popularity amongst the “frustrating” segment of our population? Do you think that maybe, just maybe, we have a responsibility to show that we are not all like that? That we are as mad at those assholes as they are? Dude, they highjacked our religion and our identity, and yet we don’t seem to mind. We are more mad at the west for reacting the only way it possibly could against us when we failed to show them that they are wrong about those dickheads being a represntitive sample of our population. We are then quick to call them all racist. Yes, it works much better this way!
Issander, the US left indulges the Jihadies, the same way the Egyptian left keeps hosting those conferences where they defend Saddam and praise “the Iraqi resistance” that is headed by Zarqawi. They might be motivated by anti-americanism, but god damn it, they are being total morons, because the Jihadis natural enemy was never the US, but the leftists. Always has been, and always will be. They do not share a single attribute with the left except for hating the US, and the moment that is no longer an issue, the leftists will be next. It happened in Iran, it happened in Egypt, and it will always happen. The left gets used by the islamists every single time, they even stole the Palestinian cause from you, and you people never fuckin learn. So, I dunno, but maybe you should tell other people on the left that maybe they should wake the fuck up.
That being said, you know I am also a fan of you, despite our different views or political leanings or whatever. So, if you don’t see my point, let’s just agree to disagree and leave it at that. Ok?

  20. Louise Says:

Peter @ 9:10 “apologies to shit” LOL!!!!!!

    Great rant @ 1:42 SM!!!

  22. tommy Says:

It has been announced that they are rolling up parts of the Zarqawi network that they had left in place (for intelligence purposes) until they got Zarqawi. It sounds like a lot of his minions are about to take a fall.

  23. infidelirious Says:

    tommy,

“they are rolling up parts of the Zarqawi network”…

Make that past tense… in addition to getting a “treasure trove” of intelligence documents and whatnot when zarqawi was squished, the coalition simultaneously hit 17 sites of the zarqawi network. I suspect many more in the network will be hit soon.

  26. tommy Says:

What really makes me happy about this is the experience that US forces will gain from tracking down Zarqawi. Hunting him down was quite a task and one that US forces were not very well versed in. Tracking insurgents is somewhat like a military operation and somewhat like a law enforcement operation. On one hand, you are dealing with heavily armed people who must be confronted with military force, on the other, you are dealing with people who must be tracked down like fugitives. The US desparately needs this sort of experience for future counterterrorism operations.

Hopefully, this experience will come in handy in the hunt for Osama and Zawahiri.

  27. Egypeter Says:

    Hey SM -

No worries buddy…the Arabist bores me to tears.

It’s a consistent theme I’ve noticed with blogs. People with less popular blog try and cut down person with more popular blog. Maybe it’s an insecurity thing or maybe it could possibly be….

    J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y. LOL

Keep on pleasing your Imperialist, Zionist, Crusader fan base on the American right.

I LOVE IT!!!!! You’re “the shit” Sandy!

  28. drew.catt Says:

Well, I’ve learnt several things of importance today.

    1. “the US left indulges the Jihadies”
    2. Apparently ‘leftist’ or ‘left’ is synonymous with ‘U.S. hating’
    3. “the Jihadis natural enemy was never the US, but the leftists”

    SM, I don’t think anyone is saying don’t celebrate. The folks and readers (of which I’m one admittantly) over at Kos have one basic thing in common. Celebrate yes, but ask yourself a question;

Will it change anything in the long run? One victory does not win a war. You said earlier that “it’s never too early for triumphalism”. I think history, and even recent history would disagree with you on that point.

  29. Anon Says:

    Indeed drew.catt, quite so.
It would be wise to wait and see a little - and also not to fragment your circle of friends by deriding those who won’t say that this is a huge victory. It’s a help, but in the end this is not a shooting war. Vengeance is sweet, but the there are many (millions) more in the world he leaves behind, who share his views.

  30. maddyg Says:

It changes a lot. All we ever hear from the left is that we have failed in the war on terror because we have not captured /killed bin laden. Well, we caught a big fish today.

  31. Gadfly Says:

The occasion of al Zarqawi’s demise has moved me to song.

When he found himself in trouble
    smart bomb seeking company
Fighting Falcon droped on — al-Zarqawi.

And in his hour of darkness
Exploding right in front of me
Streaking blood and entrails — oh yippee!

Let him bleed, let him bleed.
Let him bleed, oh , tee hee hee!
    The high-explosive acronym is “H E”

PS: Sorry that Issandr and Egypter lost their poster boy.

  32. Jen Says:

    issandr,

I read the piece in the Daily Kos and I don’t understand why you would be defensive of it. It is filled with the kind of bigoted remarks you claim to detest; albeit they are directed not at Arabs, but at anyone who opposes the left. Here’s a telling sentence:

“And all those people who had never heard of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before FOX interrupted their news about a shark attack will let out a giant “yee haw.”

Right. We know (because the elitist left tell us so often) that if you are on the right, you’re a simple-minded, trigger-happy hick from the sticks. Sandmonkey wasn’t unfair in his assessment of this piece. It IS completely negative. Why would you argue that point? Furthermore, its focus is entirely concerned with what the writer thinks WILL happen in the future; Bush WILL look smug, this WILL be touted as the greatest victory, dumbass red staters WILL shout “yeehaw!”, etc. I’m sure you’d agree that prejudice is not a virtue in journalism, sah ya achi?

And why on earth can’t Sandmonkey be libertarian and Egyptian? And be proud of both? Libertarianism embraces ALL. Where do you get this idea that we “insult all of [you]“? Should Arabs not have the freedom to think for themselves? Does one lose his Arab identity if he opposes socialism? Sad.

  33. ArmyArtilleryWife Says:

At least U.S. Intelligence was not its usual oxymoronic self this time. It is a victory and a great one at that.

I fear that coming on the heels of the Haditha investigations this will temporarily cause more attacks on US Soldiers and the Iraqi people. In celebrating the death of a very evil man, please also remember the Iraqi people and those who are trying to stabilize their country in your prayers, or your thoughts if you do not pray.

  34. nice Jewish Boy Says:

“American readers, did you know that the word “Kos” in arabic means literally “Pussy”?”
    ————-
Yes, I’ve watched your Natalie Portman clip many times — of course I know! :->

  35. drew.catt Says:

Don’t worry Anon, my circle of friend won’t break. I have a bad habit of collecting friends from all over the political spectrum. I do silly things like work on both democrat and republican campaigns, and support the war in Iraq, but decry its excesses.

Killing Zarqawi is a big step. In this everyone is correct. It forces those that are comfortable with his leadership, his tactics, and his presence to re-evaluate their own positions. It may even force many dangerous elements of the Iraqi ‘resistance’ far far underground where they won’t hurt anyone. It may also lead to the opposite.

In that sense Jen is right, the comments over at Kos are filled with the type of “label brandishing”, dismissive talk that is so typical of most politics worldwide . Heck, you see it over here and everywhere. Jen herself referred to the Kos folk as the ‘elitist left’. It’s the type of stuff that prevents a lot of people (and now I’m not making any specific comments about anyone here) from seeing all sides (they’re aren’t always two) of an issue, and the type of stuff that polarizes people.

If anything, look at ArmyArtilleryWife’s suggestion. Celebrate now, but don’t let your celebrations (for a second) distract you from the work that still needs to be done. Iraq isn’t peaceful yet. Soldiers will probably (and sadly) die tomorrow. Innocent Iraqis will probably (and sadly) die tomorrow. Silly Americans from all parts of the political spectrum will rant and rave and pontificate as if talking has changed anything in the Middle East.

  42. Anon Says:

Fortunately it is not the case but, if the top US military man in Iraq had been killed last night, the well organised military machine would have been unaffected. Your adversary may be unconventional and I do not wish him well, but it would be wise not to overestimate the significance of what military strategists call a “snipers victory”.

  43. Craig Says:

The US military is not a cult of personality, though, anon. Even so, if a legendary commander was killed in the field, it would most certainly effect US morale. Nimitz or MacArthur killed in the Pacific in WWII? Eisenhower in Europe during WWII? Chesty Puller killed in Korea? Woulda had an impact. And a big one. Though we would have recovered from it pretty quick.

What’s the problem, though? Nobody is declaring victory. A guy who deserved death is dead. That’s all.

  44. The voice in eee's head Says:

The probably with your analysis Anon is that al-Qaeda is reportedly already in lousy shape in Iraq - down to only a couple of hundred fighters at best according to many intelligence sources. Furthermore, Zarqawi’s death was followed by 17 raids today. His network is getting hit hard.

This hardly spells the end of the insurgency, you are correct, but it may spell the beginning of the end of al-Qaeda in Iraq. We shall see.

  45. The New American Citizen - al Zarqawi Killed by Airstrike North of Baghdad Says:

  47. Anon Says:

    The voice in eee’s head
When you call it “the insurgency” you are creating a boundary around something which does not exist as an entity. That’s why you see it as susceptible to military intervention, but it is not. “It” is the growing dislike within Islam for we in the West - “It” pops up in Afghanistan, in Sudan, anywhere when you look the other way. “It’s” supply lines are world wide and as non-specific as the Internet. “It” draws from a global population reservoir. It is not telling you what it wants, just what it doesn’t want, which is you (and me) and our “democracy”. Not liberation BY us, but liberation FROM us. It is hard for we over-indulged Westerners not to be admired isn’t it - but our survival probably depeds upon it.

  48. tommy Says:

is the growing dislike within Islam for we in the West - “It” pops up in Afghanistan, in Sudan, anywhere when you look the other way.

    Growing dislike? Anon be serious.

  49. Craig Says:

“It” is the growing dislike within Islam for we in the West

Growing, is it? It’s been growing since the 1970s. How long will it take before it can’t grow anymore? What comes after “abject murderous hatred” mister anon?

    Growing dislike? Anon be serious.

    Just don’t call him shirley!

I’m boggling over the number of leftists and islamists who are trying to claim Zarqawi’s death is a victory for islamists. I guess people like anon really do consider Zarqawi a martyr. I think if Repuicans get their asses handed to them in the coming elections, I’ll use anon’s tactics to claim it as a Republican victory. The world needs to see how much worse the left is than the right, then they’ll be begging for the neocons back! Yeah, that’s the ticket!

  50. Anon Says:

    Craig Says:
“I guess people like anon really do consider Zarqawi a martyr.”

What a peculiar conclusion. Most of the Moslem folk on this list call me a Nazi on account of my well-known anti-Islamic views. In my view Zarqawi was a villain that nobody will miss, sadly though, he was just one of many more. I think you seriously miss the point about the irrelevance of much of the military stuff - this is not a “humanitarian” argument, it is just the statement that “bombing” is only effective when there is something to bomb. The threat from Islam is a very widely dispersed set of ideas (among other things) and even if it makes you fell better to have a few explosions, don’t run away with the idea that you’ve fixed anything, because you haven’t

  51. AngryLibyan"American" Says:

Mohammad Atta, Ayman Al Zawihiri and now Abu-Al Masry…

    How embarassing….sorry world.

  56. greg Says:

if we ‘the american military might’ do kill enough of these who are falsely named insurgents, we will make it difficult at best for them to carry on with their attacks. not impossible just more difficult. I am not a trained terroriist but I can see ways to hurt people and break things all the tiime. What these ‘people’ do is not build up anything but instead see nothing but targets to diistroy. they are liike that poor mind wiped child pictured earlier this week. all that they know is kill and be killed. SM and some others on this blog realize that building up is what is needed. these jihadii do not. as long as they do not they are ‘the enemy’. Pray to any god that they have their eyes opened to the fact that to go forward iis to build and not to distroy. enough of this old fools ranting.

Never too late to start though! I’ll start blogging again when I’m fully loaded…

  58. Craig Says:

Anon, it’s not my fault people call you a nazi for being in opposition to Islamofascims. Lots of people aren’t very bright. Jihadis are the new nazis.

What i said stands… I can’t think of any way to describe Zarqawi’s death as a setback, which is what you seemed to be doing. Whatever reasons you had for doing so. It’s too bad we didn’t have this setback 2 years ago.

it is just the statement that “bombing” is only effective when there is something to bomb.

I fully support bombing jihadis. If we have to kill them with our bare hands, I support that too.

You see how busted up ALA is over this? That’s what the killing of Zarqawi has accomplished. If nothing else.

Jeez, I would think by my postings on this blog I would’ve given the EXACT OPPOSITE impression!! :)

I’ll co-sign that, Egyptere. WHile I disagree with you about religion, I’m with you on just about everything else I’ve seen you say :)

Gadfly & Craig seem to be having a seriously confused day

We’re having a confused day? You say you oppose the Islamists, and at the same time view Zarqawi’s death as a bad thing… and WE are having a confused day? What’s making you so weepy, then? You having some kind of perverse reaction to the guy you loved to hate not being around anymore, or what?

probably too busy with the beer and flags.

Nah. Guns and jack boots :P

  59. Gadfly Says:

Egypter: Perhaps I misunderstood your comment. It appeared as if you were sarcastically ripping SM. If that is not the case, then I apologize. That’s the problem with sarcasm (or the absence thereof) and text. No visual cues.

  60. Egypeter Says:

    For sure Gadfly!

I am, by nature, an incredibly sarcastic smart-ass :)

It’s also very difficult to detect sarcasm over the computer…so no worries at all. It’s not like you said anything too terrible anyways.

Craig - I’ve seen many of your posts and I know we share many many of the same views.

I can’t tell you how much I LOVE AMERICA and everything she stands for. It’s really really easy to love this country when your family comes from a country that does not share America’s values…just look at SM and how much he loves the U.S. :)

I’m also one of those neo-con, millitary-loving, right-wing, crusading, imperialist yahoos…or whatever you wanna call me. lol

And then as far as our differences on religion…you might be surprised at how similar we are.

    Anyway, God bless and peace.

  61. Gadfly Says:

Anybody who views al Zarqawi’s demise as a bad thing needs to seek psychiatric care. Either that or be locked away in a dark cell, which should happen to anybody who supports mass-murdering terrorist vermin.

    Nah. Guns and jack boots

LOL And I have just the rifle for it. DPMS .308 puts five round through one contiguous hole at 100m :-D

  62. Gadfly Says:

Egypter: Wow. Apparently I had you completely back-to-front. I’ll try and read more carefully next time ;)

  63. Al Says:

Well, in my opinion, the terrorists work hard to make life hell for the free world. But the Coalition Forces work harder to stop that.

At the very least, this shows that the Western military is earning its butter.

While it is true that someone new will come out, remember that succession of heirs is a very chaotic process. For a awhile, Al Queda needs to start a usually bloody process to figure out the new cell leader for Iraq.

Think about it, if one of the America military generals was killed in an attack, we would also be hurting but we also can spring back from the loss. Al Queda might not be crippled, but they are hurting at this moment.

But yeah, someone get that pilot a beer. It takes courage to face up against a nearly bacterial enemy that constantly regenerates like an evil tumor.

  64. Sam Says:

Zarqawi is dead, there is a virtual love-fest going on in the comments section of one of my favorite blogs, and people are bringing out the beer, jack boots, flags and guns. Where do I go to join in the fun?

  65. Be True Says:

Yes he is dead… because you can not see with your dumb eyes the truth he is alive… Because you sucked blooded idiots can not see or imagine even one milimeter of his dreams that came true… You will be dying soon so try to make it like a man…

    Craig:
“I fully support bombing jihadis. If we have to kill them with our bare hands, I support that too.”

Why not ? But the problem with “guerillas” and “insurgents”, is you don’t know who they are and in a city full of people where they are or when they are going to strike. And in countries with porous borders and clan allegiances and rivalries, security is at best a nightmare and at worst ineffective. THAT’s the limiting factor for military style operations - it has nothing to do with political, religious, softy, lefty neocon ideas or anything else … it is an entirely PRACTICAL consideration.

  67. Jane Says:

Someone else will soon take his place and this murderer will be seen as a martyr.

  70. Ranba Ral Says:

Hoorah on him being dead. One less dirty SOB in the world.

One thing I find interesting in all this is that many of the people on the right believe his death will start a decay of AQ. Those on the left think it will be a temporary setback and his ‘martyrdom’ will rejuvinate a stagnating AQ recruitment (or boost an already strong recruitment; if they’re ignoring everything most intel agencies in the world has been saying of late). Both point to historical support, but both are correct in their own regards. It could do either, it is too early to tell for sure.

Here’s to hoping it will do the former rather than the later. Though, now I have to find someone else to make fun of for ineptitude with weapons in propaganda pieces made to instill fear.

  71. Gadfly Says:

Greg: +1 on that. We need a martyrs deck of playing cards, complete with post mortem photos.

I can’t think of any way to describe Zarqawi’s death as a setback, which is what you seemed to be doing.

“a villain that nobody will miss” means “a setback” ?????????????????
Are you Mrxican by any chance ?

  74. Chip Says:

    issandr

I wonder why you lied about the famous “Angry” Ann Coulter quote?

The first two parts of the quote are “Invade” and “Kill their leaders.” I’d been wanting to nail some of these jihadi bastards since the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983. Before that, I’d have bombed the crap out of the Iranians for the 1979 hostage crisis. Lucky for them, kids can’t be president.

But what’s interesting about the “convert to Christianity” part is that Islam allows no freedom of religion whatsoever. “He who changes his religion, kill him.” So if you get past the Angry Ann and think about it rationally, it is critical that Muslims be allowed to have the same freedom of religion every other religious person is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

That is, unless you think death for apostasy, blasphemy, and conversion is a wonderful addition to your “progressive” value set.

Oh, right, the Left has been doing the same thing to “counterrevolutionaries” for over a hundred years. The death toll is over 140,000,000 and rising, without any hard numbers on North Korea.

  75. DaveindeSwamp Says:

This is akin to killing Yamamoto and the effective removal of Rommel from the battlefield. The killers will go on, with much less direction., Occasionally scoring a big blow, but, eeventually and sooner rather than later, die out. Die badly is just dandy too. Gotta love them GBUs huh?

  76. jloubelle Says:

I’m as glad to see him dead as anyone. But, two things –

** This was a *created enemy.* He did not become the leader of al qaeda operations in Iraq until the US invaded Iraq — I mean, right? Please correct me if I am wrong. So,this is not one of the people who attacked us on 9/11. Those people still have not come to justice.

** Does anyone else think it’s really creepy to put a great big close-up photo of the dead man’s face in a big-ass frame and hold a news conference with it? WTF is that?? It’s not as if Americans have face recognition the dude anyway. Who picked out the frame? How much did they spend on it? I am dying to know.

  77. the game is up Says:

A small step in the quest to liberate reasonable Arab women from the oppression of the abaya and hijab.

At least I hope so. :-)

  78. annimouse Says:

jloubelle, actually Zarqawi was already head of Al Qaeda in Iraq before the war. He escaped to Iraq at the invitation of Saddam when the Taliban was over run in Afghanistan and he had lost his leg in the fight. He was not a created enemy he was AQ first and relocated his operation to Iraq upon the fall of Afghanistan. And yes, there was AQ in Iraq before the war, long before the war.

From what I understood the big photo was for the Iraqi press not the Americans.

Let me add my delight that this murdering B*st*rd is gone for this earth. It might not end the insurgency but it can’t be good news for them. I’m cheering for the thousands who could be alive because this idiot isn’t here to plan and carry out the attack. One down, more to go!

  79. tommy Says:

This was a *created enemy.* He did not become the leader of al qaeda operations in Iraq until the US invaded Iraq — I mean, right? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Created enemy? Wrong. He may not have been an actual al-Qaeda member at the time of invasion, but he was definitely an anti-American terrorist before then. He ran some organization, I think it was called, “Tawwid and Jihad” or something like that, prior to switching affiliation to al-Qaeda. If we werent’ fighting al-Qaeda in Iraq, we would still be fighting T&J.

Does anyone else think it’s really creepy to put a great big close-up photo of the dead man’s face in a big-ass frame and hold a news conference with it?

The truth is that the Arab world usually seems to want some sort of visual proof that the guy is dead (or that he even existed in the first place). Of course, not all conspiracy-minded people will be impressed. Nevertheless, some people aren’t going to be swayed that the guy is really dead until they see pictures.

Then why support dictators who cater to our interests? Hell look at our support for the shithead Hosni Mubarak.

If we had supported Mossadegh instead of the shah in 1953, Iran would still be a fledging democracy to this day, but you may deny it simply because you believe America has done nothing wrong, even though there is plenty of evidence for it.

“But what’s interesting about the “convert to Christianity” part is that Islam allows no freedom of religion whatsoever. “He who changes his religion, kill him.” So if you get past the Angry Ann and think about it rationally, it is critical that Muslims be allowed to have the same freedom of religion every other religious person is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.”

    More garbage.

How do you explain the Inquisition then? How do you explain the number of Jews who FLED to Anatolia after the Inquisition?

And that verse you got from the Hadiths, which last I checked, are man-made yet the majority of the Muslim world relies on them.

“O you who believe, if any of you reverts from his religion, then God will bring people whom He loves as they love Him, and humble themselves towards the believers, while being stern towards the disbelievers; and strive in the cause of God; and never worry about any blamer who might blame them. Such is God’s grace that He bestows upon whomever He wills. God is bounteous, omniscient.”

“That is, unless you think death for apostasy, blasphemy, and conversion is a wonderful addition to your “progressive” value set. ”

Stop putting words in his mouth.

People like you only hear what you want to hear. If anyone shows you evidence debunking your viewpoints, you’d most likely deny it ever exists.

“Oh, right, the Left has been doing the same thing to “counterrevolutionaries” for over a hundred years. The death toll is over 140,000,000 and rising, without any hard numbers on North Korea. ”

Both sides have done wrong., Don’t be a hypocrite and condemn one side while staying silent on the other.

Wish you wouldn’t, DJ. I had to go back and re-read Chips post to see what it was you were going on about. I still don’t get it. Did you fall down and hit your head or something? You didn’t even mention who you were quoting, which is just as well I guess, since you were basically just doing a free form anti-America rant…
