Someone please shoot Michael Berg

Michael Berg, Nick Berg's father, doesn't seem to think that Zarqawi's death- the same Zarqawi who beheaded his son, is a big deal! If anything, he seems to think that Zarqawi's death is actually a bad thing for Iraq.

Michael Berg, a pacifist who is running for Delaware's lone House seat
on the Green Party ticket, said al-Zarqawi's death is likely to foster
anti-American resentment among al-Qaida members who feel they have
nothing left to lose.

Oh now, you mean they might not like the US or the Iraqi government? You mean they might try to kill innocent people now, and abadnon their peacefull ways? Oh, no, what have we done. We shouldn't kill any terrorist then, caue then their friends might get resentful and hate us even more than they already do and….do what? Try to kill us twice? They already want to kill everybody you freakin moron.

Wait..relax.. let the man speak.

"I think al-Zarqawi's death is a double tragedy," Michael Berg told The
Associated Press after learning a U.S. airstrike had killed the leader
of al-Qaida in Iraq. "His death will incite a new wave of revenge.

George Bush and al-Zarqawi are two men who believe in revenge."

And that makes them just the same, right? Noo, not accroding to Michael. Michael believs that George Bush is actually worse.

Berg said the blame for most deaths in Iraq should be placed on

President Bush, who he said is "more of a terrorist than Zarqawi."

"Zarqawi felt my son's breath on his hand as held the knife against
his throat. Zarqawi had to look in his eyes when he did it," Berg
added, pausing to collect himself. "George Bush sits there glassy-eyed
in his office with pieces of paper and condemns people to death. That
to me is a real terrorist."

So, the man who killed his son is not the terrorist, but Bush is. That makes sense. So, how similar are Nick and Michael Berg? let's find out!

Nick Berg, who was pro-Bush and a supporter of the Iraq war,
was, in his father’s words, a “marine wannabe” and a devoutly religious
Jew.
Michael Berg has been a pacifist and an atheist most of his life.

But Michael Berg says he and Nick shared a belief in taking a
principled stand. It is this belief that Mr. Berg says inspired his
Green Party bid for Delaware’s only Congressional seat in the wake of
Nick’s kidnapping and killing in Iraq two years ago.

And how does this douchebag promote his campaign?  By having someone dressed like his son right before he was beheaded in his election rallies. You thought Cindy Sheehan was disgusting? I present you Michael Berg, member of ANSWER and the Green Party.

And people ask me why I have serious issues with the american left!

SM ! Character assassination does not sit well on a compassionate person like you. Iknow it’s easy but …

  2. Craig Says:

Anabel, sorry, but… why does every leftist whose child gets killed use it as an opportunity to run for public office? This guy is like 108 years old and it never occurred to him to run try to run for congress until he son was murdered by Zarqawi? I’ve been tryiung to cut him some slack since he first started running his mouth after he son was killed, but this is just too much.

  3. tommy Says:

    Anabel,

Character assassination? Pointing out the obvious is not character assassination. Attacking him for something he isn’t would be character assassination. Ace of Spades made the point about Michael Berg today:

“He feels sympathy for his son’s murderer; but, of course, continues to despise Bush. Hey, all Zarqawi did was saw his son’s head off, after all. Bush, on the other hand, challenged his worldview.”

  4. JordanR Says:

I have to say, the Green Party of Canada is just as bad. They trully believe that if they appease the terrorists and reward violence the Islamists will leave us alone. I guess they never met a bully in the school yard.

  5. Drima aka SudaneseThinker Says:

SM, you need to calm down. I understand your outrage man and I know what this guy is doing is simply out of logic. However dude you need to calm down on this one. Think about it! Ask any psychologist, and he/she will tell you that extreme emotional trauma changes the pattern of thinking and behaviour in any person who goes through it. This poor man had to see his son beheaded and killed in such a barbaric manner. Do you really think he will ever recover from that??? This guy has no time for logic now and he never will. He’s simply saturated with too many emotions. He is deeply depressed. He’s been through too much. You can’t blame him and be angry at him. If anything he should be pittied.

    1- for his loss
    2- for the trauma
3- for being too depressed to think clearly and logically

My heart goes out to him.

  6. Bhuvan Says:

You are bang on target, dear!!!

  7. Peter-Australia Says:

I did indeed feel sorry for this man’s loss but the photo above just made me want to through up.

Being a typical lefty group that probably do dramatic theatre of his son getting his head cut off but with a Zarqawi character spouting that he is only doing this to save his people from the evil Bush.

I think I need a bucket before I throw up on my computer.

  8. Anabel Says:

    Craig and Tommy
In my country (España), we have sunshine, good food and hospitable people. Of course we quarrel sometimes but hardly ever on first acquaintance, so you could be nearly sure of a good welcome. Maybe you would like to come and take a holiday from your anger.

    Siga el camino con corazón.

  9. Chris in Manitoba Says:

Drima & Bhuvan, I think you are giving this guy a little too much slack. That picture above is worth a thousands words. Some people will do anything to promote their political agenda, even desicrate the memory of their son..

  10. Wolf Flywheel Says:

Hey Drima. Does the orderly know that you’re out of your room and on his computer? No offense my “Sudanese thinkig” friend, but how many people’s children have died in this war? How many were beheaded? Lastly, how many citizen contractors were kileed. drug through the streets and hung from a bridge? The answere is: more than two. Cindy Sheehan and Michael Berg are the ONLY parents of individuals involved in these situations who are taking it to the media for attention and personal gain. They are not the only ones that suffered the same tradgedies. Doesn’t it seem a bit suspicious that if they are so skewed in thier logic and so deeply depressed that they still find the ability to organize press conferences, paid speaking engagements, rallys, political maneuvers, and publicity stunts? Besides, if they are so distraught and unbalanced they certainly shouldn’t become elected officials should they?….

    Your dead on correct Wolf!

  12. Anon Says:

“if they are so distraught and unbalanced they certainly shouldn’t become elected officials should they?….”

Ummm - is that a serious question ?

  13. Janjan Says:

A small detail that may be lost on the non-Americans here: This guy and his pal Cindy Sheehan are what’s left of the “Summer of Love”. Former flower children, trying desperately to hold on to their self absorbed idealism, and unable to face the fact that they aren’t going to be young peaceniks forever.

Have at him, SM, he’s a right royal pain in the ass.

  14. Anon Says:

    Chris in Manitoba Says:
That picture above is … desicrate the memory”

Enjoy scoffing you guys, “that picture” is probably something that he can’t get out of his mind.

What a bunch of jackals yo’all are.

  15. Drima aka SudaneseThinker Says:

Arrgghhhh… Okie okie okie… FINE! I hate to say it. You managed to convince me Wolf Flywheel… If he can have the intelligence to organize to such events then he should know better… He’s defintely full of shit for using his son’s death to forward his cause and yes you’re right there are so many parents who lost their children in the war. He’s not the only one. He’s defintely full of crap for saying what he said. However I still pitty the fool… I’m sorry my pitty for him overwhelms my anger for the rubbish he said…

  16. Maya Markova Says:

To my opinion, Cindy Sheehan’s and Michael Berg’s psychopathology fits into a pattern. See my blog for details - I discussed this matter several days before Zarqawi was killed.

  17. Chris in Manitoba Says:

Anon, that’s Michael Berg in the picture re-enacting the whole scene!

  18. Anon Says:

    Chris in Manitoba Says:
“Anon, that’s Michael Berg in the picture re-enacting the whole scene!”
    Yes.

Once, at medical school, some second year students of mine thought it would be a gag to leave the severed (and old) arm from an autopsy, on the bed of another student (as in “the Godfather” you see). After some time there had been no reaction and so they entered the room to find her eating it. In her state of shock she was logically, trying to dispose of the awful item.
You cannot always guess how peoples minds will work.

  19. The Sandmonkey Says:

Thanks for the disgusting story anon!

  20. Chris in Manitoba Says:

Anon, Damn!…., really? That story true? I’m trying to eat breakfast here!

He has a mental disorder? Perhaps, I don’t know alot about peoples actions when in shock, but you have to admit his actions are a little disturbing to say the least & it does on the surface appear to be opportunism.

  21. Anon Says:

    SM
I was not trying to be disgusting. Remembeer I had to deal with it and it sticks in my mind too. But there is a moral … I can strongly identify with what Anabel said in an earlier post:
“Siga el camino con corazón.” Follow the path with heart

We live in a big bad world and it is distressing to see the way that so many folk have the habit of shooting from the hip with a hostile reaction. Disagreement is fine but this climate of reflex destruction is getting unhealthy in the extreme.

I run a VPN (unpaid sysadmin) providing email and info services to a bunch of people who mostly work with aid agencies spread all over the ME. They follow quite a lot of the blogs which are good for local and breaking stuff. SM was always popular for the insights etc though lately it seeems to have become the temple of hate and derision so if they all agree, we’ll probably drop it. I’m sure that the mainly subspecies European will not be missed, being an example of that principal preoccupation here: the “pain in the arse”.

But thank you anyway for your inestimable and courageous enterprise.

  22. Gadfly Says:

He’s got Cindy Sheehan syndrome. He suddenly saw a path that could lead to him being NOTICED! and jumped on it like a crack whore with a dime bag.

  23. Egypeter Says:

One queston for anyone who sympathizes with this asshole -

If your son got his head “sawed” and NOT “chopped” off while in Iraq…would anyone on this blog re-enact it to help promote your candidacy??? It obviously doesn’t bother HIM.

MY GOD! I can’t believe a parent would do that to the memory of their child! Just looking at that stupid picture sends a chill down my spine…I wish I had never ever saw that evil video!!

Looks like Zarqawi picked the wrong Berg!!

Oh well, I’m just ecstatic that Zarqawi is now roasting in hell with 72 demon virgins…probably really really ugly virgins with terrible breath and A-cup bras.

  24. The Sandmonkey Says:

But Peter, I like A cup women, them and B cup women. small breasted women are the shit , dude. Think of it this way: They are never affected by Gravity! ;)

  25. Wolf Flywheel Says:

    Anon said,

“After some time there had been no reaction and so they entered the room to find her eating it. In her state of shock she was logically, trying to dispose of the awful item.”

I am also in a line of work where I witness a lot of gruesome and terrible things. Medical students see body parts frequently enough I would think. My friend who is a doctor said that he dreaded the start of medical school as he had always been told to expect the “body part” prank. The point is that your story can not be used in this situation. In my experience as a cop, I’ve come to the scene of plenty freshly committed or freshly located deaths. In that time I have seen very few events where relatives or witnesses “lose it” to the point of insane actions. The people that I have seen react this way have never done anything similar to what you described and they are not medical students who come in contact with many bodies quite often. These people are not conditioned to see these things and 99% of them do nothing more than the standard shock or mourning. Still, your medical student who is reasonably conditioned to seeing these things reacts beyond the extreme. This can mean only two things: the medical student was psychotic or on the verge before the incident and the prank sent them over the edge which makes it an uncommon situation that cannot absolve Mr. Berg unless he was also pschotic or on the verge before his son’e death causing him to have a similar reaction. The other reason is the reason that I believe which is that you are lying. SEE ——- http://www.snopes.com/horrors/gruesome/cadaver.htm

Sorry to do this to you Miss Anon but your insolence can be tollerated no longer. Bye, Bye now.

  26. Wolf Flywheel Says:

    What? No one is rebutting?

No offense meant Anon. You must always remember that when you come to the table to play poker………make sure you’re holding more than a bluff and some UNO cards.

    The Shelf @ randomshelf.blogspot.com

  27. DJ Says:

Sandmonkey, calm the fuck down. Unimaginable grief causes people to react in all kinds of ways. Yeah, he could be raging against the whackos who killed his son. But if Bush hadn’t started the Iraq thing, his kid would still be alive so that’s what he’s ended up focusing on. If you ever have a kid, you’ll get some understanding of what it would be like if that kid were killed in a horrible manner. And instead of getting all out of sorts over Berg being a protester, you’ll just be flat-out amazed that the guy can get out of bed in the morning.

Short answer: you don’t have a clue of what the guy is going through, and neither do most of these guys posted here.

  28. DJ Says:

Also, the only real problem I have is Nick Berg went to the Middle East on his own. He went there to look for work, he wasn’t forced to go. So in all reality, it is Nick Berg’s fault he got killed.

  29. Karen Says:

Sandmonkey, small breasted women are all eventually affected by gravity too, especially after having children and breastfeeding. I have two such friends who look like they have small pancakes on their chests. Just wait till the women you know are in their 40’s. Sorry to ruin your fantasy.

  30. Egypeter Says:

    SM you said:

“But Peter, I like A cup women, them and B cup women. small breasted women are the shit , dude. Think of it this way: They are never affected by Gravity!”

WHAT? And you call yourself an Egyptian?? We are blessed with some of the most well-endowed women in the world and your concerned about gravity?? LOL. I guess that’s also one of the things I’m rooting for in Egypt…Freedom to Love Small Breasts. Freedom anything, man…I’m all for it :)

  31. Craig Says:

    Anon 12:

“if they are so distraught and unbalanced they certainly shouldn’t become elected officials should they?….”

No, I actually want the US government to be run by neurotic grief stricken parents. It’d make a pretty entertaining reality television for the 3 or 4 months it would take them before they decided to turn the government over to AL Qaeda by way of making amends for America’s past transgressions. I can almost see it now:

Senator #1: “I have here the last letter I received from my son before he was killed in -”

Senator #2: “A letter? A letter? I keep my duaghter’s diary right here next to my heart so that I will never forget! I’d like to take this opportunity to read -”

Senator #3: “Letters and diaries? I have a video of my son being decapitated right here in my briefcase. I think we would all benefit form a public viewing in open session -”

Senator #4: “Video!? My son’s severed head is right here under my chair, in a jar… it’s a constant reminder-”

Senator #5: “How dare you! Are you implying that just because I keep my son’s severed head in the freezer at home, that somehow my loss is…”

And so on, and so on.

Ummm - is that a serious question ?

Yes. It was a serious question. My sarcasm is pretty ghoulish, but then Michael Berg is pretty ghoulish too, wouldn’t you say?

  32. BornIn1965 Says:

The fact of the matter is that the deaths of their respective children gave Michael Berg and Cindy Sheehan national and international attention. They then used that attention to spout off political views which they held long before either of their children were killed.

  33. Wolf Flywheel Says:

Delightfully spot-on example Craig and entertaining as well.

  34. tommy Says:

What I find most fascinating about the whole Zarqawi situation is how many left-wing bloggers and generally anti-American Arab bloggers are acting like nothing happened.

I find no shortage of Arab sites that have mentioned Haditha (often repeatedly and usually proclaiming a guilty verdict before any facts are even made public) but are completely ignoring the Zarqawi news.

” SM was always popular for the insights etc though lately it seeems to have become the temple of hate and derision so if they all agree, we’ll probably drop it.”

And this is especially cute. I like the implied threat: “SM, if you don’t tow a good liberal European Social Democratic line, we will drop you, and what is more, we will label you a fascist (aren’t they the only ones who attend “the temple of hate”?).
