Alaa is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I just got the news by the phone from Manal. Alaa is beeing let go by the Police and should be released today or tomorrow maximum from Custody after spending 45 days in prison pending investigation. The State security prosecuter has apparently orderd his release today, given that he was the only one left unreleased from the original group that was arrested on May 7th. This is great and awesome news. Will keep you all updated!

Wohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: Just spoke to Manal again. He will not be released today. Probably by tomorrow night or after tomorrow morning. The reason? Paperwork! They will take him to every place he was taken to while arrested (the Police precintc, the state prosecuter, the initial holding priosn, etcc…) to finish up paper work in regards to him. But at least now he is getting out, which is still awesome news. Thanks for all of you who helped, who signed the petition, who google-bombed, or even put that banner up. Thank you so much!

Mabrook. A small victory for true freedom fighters. However, The front line soldiers of freedom in Egypt Farag Fouda and Sayed el Qimni weren’t so lucky. You bloggers make use of the internet’s anonimity. Most of you Egyptian bloggers are part of the financially privlidged elite. You come and go from and to the west. Egyptian progressive writers like Farag fouda, Sayed el qimni, mohammad saeed el 3ashmawi and many other heros weren’t so lucky. Farag fouda was shot by Islamic jihad. Sayed el qimny received death threats against his wife and children from islamist groups, el ashmawi was declared an apostate, and nasr hamed abou zeid was forced to separate from his wife legally in egypt prompting him and his wife to move to Europe. God bless the brave souls.
