Yeah, I saw this story yesterday. Bizarre.

  2. The Raccoon Says:

LOL! Beware of small Chinese women with swords!
I wonder which school taught her so poorly that she thought it fitting to force her husband to do stuff at swordpoint. Or maybe there was some kinky thing going on there?

  6. hubub Says:

oooh I’d definately say kinky maybe a little bit of teasing and a foreplay to. Hey maybe its a sign to all mid-easts ladyfolk to dust off their scimitars and show their husbands who REAL daddy is.

    Oooo OUCH.

  9. Steven Says:

    Talk about an abusive relationship

  10. Steven Says:

    Kinky?!!!

LoL - She stabbed the guy in the chest, what is “kinky” about that?!

  11. jonas Says:

Submissive?? I think you must be referring to Japanese wife.

  12. tommy Says:

Yeah jonas, I think you’ve got it right. Chinese and Korean women are often pretty domineering. It is Japanese and Indian women I associate with being submissive.

  13. The Raccoon Says:

    Tommy -

The Japanese certainly have a culture in which women are regarded as little more than slaves in a relationship.

But Indians? Man, don’t you know any old Mama-ji matriarchs that rule their domain with an iron hand that would make Kali proud? :)

  14. Qaiz Says:

I wonder what was going through the husband’s mind as he got stabbed !??!!??

“i should have taken care of this sword-playing long ago!”

    or maybe,

” F’..ing bitch, i knew she is not as good at it as she was pretending to be!!!”

    So sad..

    Q.

  15. tommy Says:

Yeah, I should clarify that Raccoon.

Women in southern India tend to be rather matriarchal. Women in northern India tend to be more submissive.

  16. The Raccoon Says:

Tommy - I wonder why… I mean, the most prominent female deity in the North is Kali (and she’s one badass mofo, that woman :) ) and the south is all Lakshmi (who’s nice and seldom kills people).

D’you recon it could be Islamic influence?

  17. tommy Says:

Yeah, they conceal their women in the north much more frequently. Purdah. It seems likely this is because of Islamic influence. It isn’t entirely clear, however. Some coins from the pre-Islamic era show veiled goddesses and the like, so it may have been a result of some pre-Islamic customs. I believe the Parsiis in Bombay generally conceal their women in a similar fashion also. (Though I’ve never noted this of Parsiis living in the West for some reason.) Some also think that Hindus may have adopted these customs as a form of defense against Islamic invasion rather than as direct imitation. The historical picture is hazy.

In any event, India is an extremely diverse country. It is hard to generalize too much.

Sorry to burst your bubble, boys, but the submissive Japanese wife is no more. I lived there for 5 years and married a Japanese woman and I can tell you that the last of the ’submissives’ was born in the 50’s. Japanese women today are every bit as strong willed as their North American/European counterparts. Getting back to the topic at hand…My wife was introduced to me because she practiced the same martial art as I do; Iaido, the art of the Japanese sword, although she has yet to take a poke at me with her sword so far…
