Remember the anti-suicidebombing PSA they planned on airing on arabic channels to convince the arabic youth that such acts are bad? Well, they have been airing it for a month now, and I can't help but chuckle everytime they do. The reason? The people who made it took the opening sequence from Swordfish, with the bullettime 360 degrees damage and carnage shot, and, I dunno, photoshopped Turbans and Hijabs on on the flying extras from the original movie. I am not kidding. It looks really really bad and cheesy. If you doubt me, go here and watch it yourself. Just try not to laugh. It's really really bad, but also really really funny!

The best possible PSA they could make against suicide bombing would be a very graphic display of the aftermath of such a bombing. Show the body parts strewn around. Show the severed head of the suicide bomber. Show the carnage and the gore. Show it all.

Would be to show them that all of the 72-virgins they’re expecting look like this.

The best PSA they could show is the bloody and torn apart body of a suicide bomber, followed by a showing of dust in the wind. It’s ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The suicide bomb fuckers are dying for NOTHING. They should should a picture of a rotting corpse of a suicide bomber. “THIS IS WHAT YOU BECOME.”

i thought it was good until the explosion part. the flames looked too fake and the bodies flying through the air was weird. its pretty sad and pathetic that there even needs to be a PSA to tell people not to blow themselves up and murder people. It would be like making a PSA saying that parents shouldn’t molest their children. pretty scary that we’ve come to this point.

Say what? Now, you’re not the “we know where you live SM” guy who appeared the other day are you?
Best PSA would be a simple message from families of victims talking about the loved ones they lost: humanises it, makes you empathise with them. Flying body parts and special effects (if you call it that) is definitely not the way to go

Idea, I imagine (never heard of this campaign) was to break a taboo and dispel - however partially - a mystique.
I suppose then too, that the producers wanted to be as effective as possible, not to be whatever your idea of high Art is. Means reaching the audience, no? Not you. Propaganda doesn’t have to be elegant.
That said,
1) It’s not “cheesy” (you demean the true meaning of cheesiness).
2) The movies/TV in the Muslim Middle East ARE pretty corny. It’s the exports that aim higher. Anything artsy-fartsy would be — fartsy-fartsying in the wind. (cf. “effective” above).
You HAVE seen typical dramatizations in Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, right?
3) Is it better than nothing?
Lastly, and most important…Just what IS your point?
