Hey, that's what Bashar said. I don't really believe him to be serious, but hey, at least he said it!

I agree, SM, at least he said it. A first step maybe? Diplomacy is better than military action any day!

Is pretty interesting - Peres meeting a senior member of the Saudi royal family

It’s funny how Syria is allowed to make peace with Israel but Lebanon is not…

Maybe I’m naive. But I find it very encouraging that he would even say these words, whether or not he’s sincere. Helps make peace with israel become an acceptable part of the dialogue.

Puniqe,
Good point. Maybe a little bit of the old Nixon-to-China thing.

Dirk’s link is, indeed, pretty interesting. Could a new axis, or more likely temporary marriage of convenience, be emerging: sunni/israeli vs iran?

Then again, maybe he’s afraid he’d win a war with Israel just like HA did!

Words, words, words. If he’s feeling so Jew-lovey, why doesn’t he speak out against anti-semitism and take all that shit they have about us drinking the blood of children off the air? Oh no, sorry, that’s an action… that might be going to far; best to stick with words for now.

I am a big fan of surface politness. Saying something in public that’s positive can have deeper effects on a society.

He’s got peace with Israel. There hasn’t been any fighting between Syria and Israel for decades. And there won’t be if he doesn’t start it.
So what is he talking about exactly?

Considering that Syria is part of ‘the axis of evil’ he might be trying to show Israel ( and hence the US ) that there is no need to impose sanctions on Syria such as assett freezing etc…or worse. IMHO I think he’s trying to protect his own ass from something that he might have been told that awaits him. How, ‘A Christmas Carol’ would that be ?

Ah yes, the ghost of JDAMs future!
