Adios, Asshole!

Saddam is finally sentenced to death, alongside his brother and the head of the revolutionary court.

Wohooooooooooooooo………

Now excuse me while I do my little "Saddam is going to die" dance. It's going to be this much sweeter knowing that Raed is upset about it, because he thinks Saddam is getting this sentence as part of a "republican October surprise". Not that Saddam is a despiciable Butcher or anything; it's all part of Bush's nefarious plan (How could Bush be so smart and so dumb at the same time? Anyone know?). It makes sense that Mr. Saddam is our national leader is all upset about it, after all, Saddam took care of his family's palestinian ass on the expense of the average Iraqi. So I am glad his death sentence pisses him off. It's like a Bonus.

What a great start to the day!

Update: It's November 5th. The 5th of November? "Remember, Remember, the 5th of November", anyone? Am I the only one amused by this? Shit, I will remember this day forever!

Update: Rampurple never thought she would see the day.

Update: Mo is excited that this dark page of Iraq's history is over.

Update: Drima doesn't think death by hanging is sufficient punishment for this asshole!

Perhaps Saddam should die by the same poison he dropped on the Kurdish people.

In any case, it’s not gonna make a damn bit of difference in the upcoming elections.

    I predict a Democratic rout.

  16. Katrin Says:

Well, if Saddam prefers the military firing squad, let him have the hangman.

I wouldn’t make the hanging public, though. Enough uproar in the country already. Just let him have hanged in a secret place on a secret date and then publish one picture. And take good care of him before the date, he might follow the coward Goering.

Can anybody enlighten me about the 5th of November story? I’m not good with dates *shrug*

  29. egyptian_patriot Says:

While surely a lot of people are happy about executing Saddam, I for one am not. Not because I love saddam, but because I believe in a thing called justice. Proper civilized justice. This trial is highly politicized and unprofessional. Look at the judge’s antics in the trial. Does his demeanor even remotely measure up to what is expected of a neutral and professional Judge in the civilized World? Even Judge Judy and a clown would have their reservations about him. The Judge in this case displayed immature and rowdy rhetoric that’s almost on the same plane as Saddam Hussein’s Demeanor. Justice is not about Revenge or “Take That” mentality. Justice is about a process that is logical, professional and Fair. Saddam is going to get executed for being responsible for the killing 148 people in Dujail. Fine. But how about the rest of the 3 million he’s responsible for their deaths? Where is their satisfaction? Executing Saddam at this stage is wrong and a big mistake. Doing so, only makes him pay dues for the Dujail massacre but completley absolves him of the other tragedies he is responsible for. What about the enablers and the backers of Saddam national AND international who are equally responsible for the attrocities he commited (we might end up seeing a couple of republicans indited) ? Executing Saddam now will further divide Iraqis given that the trial is nothing short of an impotent attempt at legal action against a former tyrant. This trial is so short of many things and the execution of Saddam will make him a Martyr rather than an appropriate punishment for his rule. What should be done, is a fully televised (no cuts or visual editing) trial where PROPERLY trained Judges and Jury of his peers is held (You may have to look outside of Iraq for that) and proceeding to be done in the most professional manner. It must be held when Iraq returns to a degree of normalcy with all the people tuned in. Killing Saddam will relieve him of having to talk infront of the 20 million people he used to rule and explain why he did the things he did. That’s how the scars will be healed. Things like seeing him standing there like a frail old man trying his best to justify what’s unjustifiable on prime time national tv. THat’s what proper and civlized justice can achieve. But this redneck enabled arabist tribal form of street ‘justice’ will kill saddam but not bring justice to Iraq. Mind you, no one expects better when the American goverment is run by incompetent stupid fucks and Iraqi society is under the spell of tribal and relegious radicals who don’t understand what civil discourse is about.

  30. kishnevi Says:

Egyptian patriot is very right. This trial does nothing for the Iraqi people except allow them to indulge in some bloodlust. It is as much a piece of political theatre as a White House speech, and as much of a show trial as any of the judicial proceedings during the Stalinist purges, and as such is arranged to maximize the political impact for its sponsors, the Bush administration and what passes for the Iraqi government.

What should have been done is a cumulative public exposition of the evidence for all Saddam’s crimes, an opportunity to mount a defense, and a stage to rebut whatever defense is offered. Sentencing and execution would almost an afterthought, or at least simply the necessary and logical conclusion. Instead it’s all farce. Not a single human being is better off because of this trial.

  31. Patrick Says:

Oh come on sandmonkey, this is definitely an October surprise. There’s absolutely no reason why he had to be condemned two days before the election. It could have and should have waited or been taken care of long ago. It’s just to show an example of success in Iraq and remind voters of Saddam’s atrocities. Unfortunately, it’s going to work because voters aren’t that smart (especially in VA, MT, and MO, where it matters) and then we’re gonna have to deal with naother four years of this shit.

Second, this trial was totally illegitimate. It didn’t even the aura of a fair trial. I consider any judgment from this trial totally invalid. It was a publicity stunt.

Third, Death by hanging is brutal and inhumane. It’s fucked up for any civilized nation to mete out this punishmetn and for the new Iraqi government to do such a thing it’s only doing as bad as Saddam.

Besides, the atrocities that Saddam is being tried for were supported by the US government and the Reagan administration when they occurred.

Yes. I see it has done you no end of good. Perhaps you might like to tell us all what you got for your Bac considering that most rational people do not think an ad hominem is a valid, much less logical, form of argument. Perhaps the French are different?

There is a strong argument that the death penalty is precisely what is needed. After all, France did no such thing after 1945 - they even let since-convicted war criminals continue to serve in the French police. Who was Prefect of Polcie in Paris when they murdered a few hundred Algerians and dumped the bodies in the Seine? Did France benefit from turning a blind eye to the crimes of Vichy? I think not.

As for the trial, so what if it was a joke? Sometimes even prejudiced people get it right. Does anyone think for one second Saddam was innocent? A good trial would have been better, but best of all would have been a summary execution after a short military tribunal hearing. Get it over and done with and move on.

Hei, try to learn more history,

first , when De Gaulle led the country in 1945, he did not want a civil war in France, (see what happened in Irak) and kept regarding toward a reconstruction of the nation, therefore he needed to unify all the frenchs ; the avered ones guilty of cooperating with the ennemy were punished (death penalty or heavy prison sentences)

if France carried on employing her administration clerics after the WW2, it’s cause there were no body else able to run the country, that is why De Gaulle create the ENA, so that in future, government will have the choice

and that was the same situation for all occupied european countries

as far the fact you cited, France was at war with Algeria, and of course the police reaction was disprortionated, kind of pranoïa you have in Israel too

  35. Smarty Says:

Of course, the French were too stupid to execute Napoleon, and so he revisted trouble on them and the rest of Europe again.

Now the Euro-cowards are crying that Saddam will get the death penalty. Better a dead martyr than a live threat waiting to be sprung from jail.

Patrick, you are unhinged, and your side has been pulling plenty of suprises, and keeping them on the front pages too.

If you liberals are too cowardly and squeemish to see Saddam hanged, then you are too cowardly and sqeemish to even pretend that you have a solution to terrorism besides dhimmitude.

  36. Nomad Says:

Smarty, I love you my little rabbit

  37. HeiGou Says:

Nomad Says:”Hei, try to learn more history,”

Well this may sound arrogant, but you are probably better advised not to take that line with me.

Nomad Says:”first , when De Gaulle led the country in 1945, he did not want a civil war in France, (see what happened in Irak) and kept regarding toward a reconstruction of the nation, therefore he needed to unify all the frenchs ; the avered ones guilty of cooperating with the ennemy were punished (death penalty or heavy prison sentences)”

A very few were either punished or executed for co-operating with the enemy. Apart from all the women who were brutalised of course. Don’t mess with the Vichy officials, but humiliate the women. What makes you think there would have been civil war in 1945? In fact the only real risk of that was with the PCF who were, of course, annoyed their former allies in Vichy were NOT punished. De Gaulle needed the Fascists to help him against the Communists and so let them off.

Nomad Says:”if France carried on employing her administration clerics after the WW2, it’s cause there were no body else able to run the country, that is why De Gaulle create the ENA, so that in future, government will have the choice”

The question is not the continued employment of a few, or even most, but the employment, promotion and honoring of people like Maurice Papon. Did DG have to give him the Ld’H?

Nomad Says:”as far the fact you cited, France was at war with Algeria, and of course the police reaction was disprortionated, kind of pranoïa you have in Israel too”

Not in 1961 it was not. That was precisely why France was fighting - Algeria was French and it was not a war. I don’t recall Israeli police shooting dead several hundred Palestinians in a peaceful civil rights march in the heart of Tel Aviv. Do you?

  38. Nomad Says:

De Gaulle needed the Fascists to help him against the Communists and so let them off.

did you know De Gaulle had communist ministers in his government ? so, your on bullshitting

Algeria was French and it was not a war. I don’t recall Israeli police shooting dead several hundred Palestinians in a peaceful civil rights march in the heart of Tel Aviv. Do you?

War with Algeria started in 1954,
in 1962, you could say we won the military war but not the political one,
and De Gaulle had a count to regularise with the french colons of which the origins were in WW2, that is why he gave the independance despite he promised to them

and in Israel how come palestinians could riot for their civil rights, since they are not allowed to get in there ?

  39. HeiGou Says:

Nomad Says:”did you know De Gaulle had communist ministers in his government ? so, your on bullshitting”

Of course I know he did. And he pushed them into junior Ministries and in fact rearranged the Defence Ministry just to keep them out of Army matters.

But that does not mean he liked or trusted them. France was near to falling to Stalin in 1945 and De Gaulle, although forced to make concessions, also brought over as much of the Far Right as he could to have allies against them.

Nomad Says:”War with Algeria started in 1954,”

There was no Algeria to have a war with. Rebels in the Departments that made up what is now Algeria started a rebellion in 1954 but if it was a war it was only a civil war because Algeria was part of France.

Nomad Says:”in 1962, you could say we won the military war but not the political one,
and De Gaulle had a count to regularise with the french colons of which the origins were in WW2, that is why he gave the independance despite he promised to them”

Sorry but what? Yes, France won the military war. De Gaulle gave independence despite being brought to power by the colons and their Army friends because he recognised the fighting was unwinnable and so sacrificed the pied noir. So what?

This does not change the fact that Papon, a since-convicted war criminal, was Prefect of Police in Paris at the time.

Nomad Says:”and in Israel how come palestinians could riot for their civil rights, since they are not allowed to get in there ?”

About 20 percent of the Israeli population is Palestinian as it happens.

  40. Nomad Says:

So Papon is your black beast, then why your Mossad komandos did not pick him ? I am sure he was not hiding in Argentina or Paraguay !

  41. Katrin^ Says:

    thx, Bec :-) .

Somehow I’ve got to study this Guy Fawkes incident more closely one day - I’m still not sure if I draw the correct conclusion.

    HeiGou,

About 20 percent of the Israeli population is Palestinian as it happens.

That’s a fact nobody want’s to know when ‘new Apartheid’ is being celebrated.

  42. eero Says:

Are they gonna to sell tickets to it?
“That’s right folks, step right up! Come and see how easy and fun it is to execute a defenceless human being! Celebrate your barbarity by cheering to a murder!”

Smarty wrote: “then you [liberals] are too cowardly and sqeemish to even pretend that you have a solution to terrorism besides dhimmitude.”

Yeah, unlike conservatives who have the guts to pretend they have a working solution while they know they have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. “We will be celebrated as liberators! They have WMDs! Last throes!”

  43. Smarty Says:

Better to try and fail than to cower and whimper at the start.

Of course when people do try, the whimpering cowards try to sabotage it, because the bravery of others shame them.
