Abdel Karim update

Here is the latest update on the abdel karim saga provided to me on the phone by Haitham, who is in Alex with Abdel Karim and his lawyer: It seems that Abdel Karim had seriously ruffled the feathers of the persecutors the last time and didn't let his lawyer protect him, opting instead to go into long diatribes about his views and how right they are, which anyone facing the kind of charges he is facing in a country like this ehh, just wouldn't do. There is a line between Bravery and just being retarded, and Abdel Karim manages to cross it everytime. and Today's appearance was no different.

He met up with his lawyer in seemingly high spirits, and asked for money, food and blankets to use in his cell. He then went in and continued his discussions and diatribes with the perscutor, basicall telling them that he is right, that they are wrong and that they don't know shit. The persecutor, obviously taken back by this, openly asked him if he has mental problems, and then told him that he will jail him for another 2 weeks under investigation until he "comes back to his senses". And that's what's going to happen now.

More later!

I love it! Disagreeing with the prosecutors is enough to get your jail-time extended? Their job must be so much easier than up here!!!

Hey, if I knew that conditions were like this, I’d keep my trap shut and let the lawyers do their job, but I can certainly feel his resentment towards the system! I’d be itching to give them a piece of my mind as well…!

Actually he may be on to something here. If he can convince them he is insane, they may leave him alone in the future.

Besides, someone has to take a stand. Glad it is not me. Hope he does not pay for it.

Yeah, or maybe they treat insane people like they did in the former Yugoslavia… A lifetime of isolation cell or a shot of strychnine!

Just kiddin’ - I have no idea how mentally ill are treated in Egypt.

Don’t you just hate it when somebody who has a good point and should win, ruins it all by being irritating?

Do you win new freedom by giving in when the assert their power? They have piece of mind, knowing any time they take their penatly to a certain point , you cave. This is insane? Rose Parks? Martin Luther King? Ganhdi? Tell me they were insane or they caved in. They all had to endure great pain for their causes. I’m sure there are many others we never heard about, because those in power were successful.

I think the cat is out of the big, and we need to fully support Abdel Kareem in his struggle. We need to shine a light on it. No matter his penatly, it won’t go unnoticed.

I was unhappy with the result of Mahmood’s struggle, to censor himself.

It’s an ugly battle, but one must not weaken, but gain strength as the pressure is applied.

Please reconsider what you said in this blog post about Adel Kareem. If he wanted, to get out of jail and lessen his problems, he would be silent, no doubt, and he would live to fight another day, but I think he know has the tools on the outside to show his fight, and it’s a worthwhile one.

Been reading here lately and just thought I’d mention Egypt made the internet enemies list, to find Dina is on top of it, good job.

Raises my respect even more for the Egyptian and Saudi bloggers I’ve been following. They live in countries that keep company on that list with North Korea and China, yikes! Here’s a link to Reporters Without Borders-
