Here’s what the Baltimore sun had to say about the election. Maryland is a reliably Democratic state, and the Democrats swept all the elections this time. However, this is not a sign that the voters are all that thrilled with the recent performance of their favorite party. The Democrats in the US will be held accountable by the voters if they do not change the way they have been acting.

    excerpts:

For those of us who long for the return of the party built by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman and John F. Kennedy, we hope with great anticipation that the 110th Congress will work with the president to emerge victorious in Iraq and begin healing a nation polarized by political turmoil. ….

Democrats are capable of diplomatic leadership, but they must have the right people standing up for them.

Virulently criticizing the president, John Kerry and his supporters are no longer the right people. The last thing the party needs is a repeat of 2004 in 2008, which, in its own way, was a repeat of the anti-war McGovern platform in 1972. To no surprise, Mr. Kerry met the same fate as George McGovern, and the Democratic Party is no better for it.

It’s time for Mr. Kerry and those liberals stuck in the Vietnam era to wake up and view the world in the post-9/11 era. If they can’t, then, as Mr. Kerry once said, “It’s time for a regime change.”

There must be a bipartisan solution for Iraq other than a quick withdrawal that amounts to surrender and compromises American and Iraqi security.

It cannot come by merely blaming the president for everything that goes wrong, especially when some of it is beyond his control. Victory must come from a desire for Congress and the president to work together, and, most important, the patience and resolve of the American people.

Guess no one told Levin he said on TV this moring that they want a 4-6 month withdrawl from Iraq. Yep Iran wins!

  4. mike Says:

Iran will declare victory no matter what happens. It’s the way that region works. Remember hezbollah and the war they “won” last summer.

  5. Winston Says:

And this is one of the few reasons why Republicans had to win this recent mid-term election. Now, every enemy of the United States views this as a defeat and submission.

  6. scooter Says:

gee Winston, I could shed a tear for the GOP just at the thought of it. Sure hope that Iraqification works a shit load better than Vietnamisation.

  7. eero Says:

Khameinis rational perceptions of world news are yet again as sane as always.

  8. Tom Katt Says:

You guys have all that oil, yet are unable to do anything constructive with it. So that makes us the winners, no matter what the result. But it’s not really our fault, because uncovered oil too much temptation for us - you made us do it!

  9. The Raccoon Says:

Tom Katt - uhm. When Iran will nuke US, I doubt it’ll seem like such a great victory for you. USA public has voted… voted for submission and suicide. Hurray hurray and allah akbar.

“And this is one of the few reasons why Republicans had to win this recent mid-term election. Now, every enemy of the United States views this as a defeat and submission”

An enemy that will claim victory under any circumstance basing their “victory” on the defeat of the republican control in a mid-term election, I doubt it.

9: There was more to the US election than submission and suicide, racoon. The US is a complicated country, with a large variety of goals, agencies, and projects, and the one you seem to be paying attention to is not the be all and end all of political decisions. There was some (and still are) serious problems with corruption, the US trade deficit is off the scale, the US government has been spying on it’s citizenry on mass against its own laws, and habeas corpus has essentially been scrapped. Even ignoring iraq, which is hard to do, there’s plenty a case to get rid of every single republican that was ousted, as well as many of the democrats.
