   Man I hope Fatah wins. Not that I have any love for them but at least they don’t call for the killing of all the Jews until Judgement Day in their official charter.

   I alweays said that Sharon was a genius to give back the Gaza. There were three possible outcomes, all of them good for Israel.

   1. Because of this great humanitarian gesture, peace would break out. Very unlikely but possible.

   2. The Palestinians would take control and use the Gaza as a base for attacking Isreal. If they did so, Israel could easily recapture it and show the world that “land for peace” is a myth. This would take the blame off of Israel for the stalemate.

   3. And most likely, the various factions of the Palestinians would fight for control and kill each other off. There is no better wat to win a war than have your enemies kill each other. And that is what we are now seeing.

   Sharon was a genious.

   Thewiz, I think you have overlooked a couple of other reactions. I have labelled them 2a and 2b, as they are variants of your number 2:

   2A. The Palestinians would take control and use the Gaza as a base for attacking Isreal. If they did so, any actions taken by Israel in response or prevention would be considered “hostile” “provocative” or “escalations”.

   2B. The Palestinians would take control and use the Gaza as a base for attacking Isreal. If they did so, Israel could easily recapture it and show the world that “land for peace” is a myth, but the world really doesn’t care.

    Apparently Sharon is not a genius. He GAVE UP land, and this gave the Palestinians hope that their land can be RETURNED.
    In any way you look at it, Sharon was wrong.
