Alan Greenspan channels Michael Moore

He actually went for the Blood for Oil explanation. Greenspan really went there. Holy Shit.

Oh well, just in case you forgot, it wasn't about the Oil, Stupid!

  1. If the Iraq war had really been about securing oil supplies, there would have been no war, because there are too many, better ways, to get the energy we need. Saddam Hussein may have been a killer and a lousy manager of his people’s welfare, but he was always willing to sell oil.

If it really were “all about the oil” you would have seen a full-court press to resume the building of nuclear and coal-powered plants. One-fifth of our energy already comes from nuclear power, and we already know how to build very clean coal-fired plants. It wouldn’t take many facilities, and neither the cost nor the timeline would have been insurmountable (provided we could get the enviros to agree).

It really was about the money and the terrorism. Saddam Hussein was a flagrant supporter of terrorists. He had lots of money that he had diverted from its intended purpose (feeding children) and Al-Qaeda had just proffered their proof-of-concept. What President Bush did was cut short the game of “Dogpile on the Wabbit.”

  2. Knowing what we know about the msm, I’d say misquoted is the correct assumption.

Sandmonkey’s prior discussion of this question (which he linked to above) is the best rebuttal to the “it was the oil” argument.
