The difference between Americans  and Egyptians is that Americans think they have the right to do anything, until someone tells them they can't, while Egyptians think that they don't have the right to do anything, until someone tells them they could.

  1. D-mn you got that right, and it’s not funny. The Egyptian democracy “activists” I met in the spring certainly behaved that way. Some were conscious of it, but even so they didn’t realize the freedom-of-action they had.

    A century ago Germans thought the same way, and that sort of thinking led to two world wars. Whether Egypt will go down the same way I don’t know.

    And most of the time, no one tells us what we can do :) . Figures of authority generally prefer the ignorant masses – and won’t be telling people about their rights any time soon either…
