Rantings of a Sandmonkey
Huh? These things happen here?
Somebody described religion as the opiate of the people. As long as each person’s opiate doesn’t give them license to kill those with a different type of opiate, it’s no problem. Beside, if the Greatful Dead can perform in Egypt with the pyramids as a backdrop and the pyramids are still standing, this is no big deal.
“Somebody described religion as the opiate of the people”
It was Lenin, I think.
Leo, yes, I wasn’t testing, but, I wasn’t really trying to involve a communist, but, I guess one must give credit where it’s due. I didn’t want to come off as a Godless person.
Actually, it was Karl Marx.
Lenin said that every revolution needs some “useful idiots”.
COMMUNISM was a religion too
Wonder what Shenouda and company think of these shenanigans. Egypt needs more cults for sure!
Forget diplomacy, democratic agitation, secularization, and military intervention. From al-Qaeda in Iraq to Israel-Palestine, there’s only one cure for what ails the Middle-East. And that cure is the Majesty of Christ. These people need the one & only Holy Bible to solve their problems, not godless soc/com/lib/dem prayer-quashing, queer-kissing, baby-killers.
I encourage all Evangelicals to travel to Riyadh, KSA and begin preaching The Word in all it’s literal and exclusive glory. Extra-points for shaving the back of your neck and donning an orange jumpsuit before a round of street preaching Saudi. The Arabs consider it festive.
CMAR II, dam, difficult keeping my communists straight.
so who exactly are you refering to as the “godless soc/com/lib/dem/ prayer-quashing, queer kissing, baby killers.” ?
Andrew, he may have been a bit over the top, but, I think he was talking about Islamic extremists and democrats. I particularly enjoyed what he said about going to Riyadh. First off they’d have been arrested for even thinking of going there and if they were to preach anything from anything other than the accepted book of religion they would have had their heads chopped off which instantly becomes reason for a festival in the majic kingdom.
I stand corrected.
It’s called sustained sarcasm. I was mocking Christian conservatives, whom refer to non-fundies as baby killers, etc., and think Jesus is the answer to all complex geopolitical problems.
Read more carefully what I wrote about preaching in Riyadh; I said they should shave the backs of their necks and don orange jumpsuits before a round of street preaching, which is a reference to beheadings (you’ve seen the videos, right?). Hence they joke about Arabs considering Christian street preaching “festive”.
Jeez, guys, it was pretty obvious. If anyone took mu post at face value, I would strongly advise against them reading “A Modest Proposal”.
Excuse me, I meant “Hence, THE joke about beheadings” not “Hence, THEY joke…” There’s also a typo in the last paragraph where I typed “mu” instead of “my”.
