Blacks are not our brothers

Well, when they try to cross our borders, unlike when palestinians do it, we shoot and kill them. Apparently we are ok with shooting people who are breaching our borders, but only if they are black. That doesn't make us racist, because, well, like, ok, so we are racist. Who cares? They are black, people. I mean, Somalia is now facing the world's greatest humanitarian crisis (yes, more than Gaza. Imagine!!) according to the UN, but does anybody care? Hell no. Do you see anyone collecting money for them? Or doing anything to alleviate their suffering? Aren't they our muslim brothers too? Oh, right, I forgot. They are black. Plus, the people causing their crisis are not Jews. We don't care unless the crisis is somehow related to Jews or americans. I can't even imagine the trouble we would be in with world-opinion if we had shot and killed a palestinian on our borders, but Blacks are ok. Fantastic!

“Do you see anyone collecting money for them?”

Well, we just had a nationwide television collection, resulting in 66.179.658 dansih kroner (about 6.5 million british pounds) for the children in Africa.

    It’s a start…

If they wanted to get to Israel, it would have been much easier just to cross the Egyptian/Israeli border. Shows how bright they were for trying to get into Israel through Gaza! They would have had a 0% chance of getting to Israel from Gaza.

Last time Americans tried to help Somalis, the natives dragged the bodies of 19 American soldiers thru the streets. If Americans and Dumbush don’t give a crap about Somalia, it’s for a good reason.

“we shoot and kill them. ”

This is something I mentioned earlier…How is it that the Egyptian army has occasionally been blasting Darfurians trying to just sneak OUT…yet suddenly is unarmed when Gazan’s, many of whom are armed and violent, are brazenly storming in?

Are you an idiot Sam? These Africans were shot as they were LEAVING Egypt not entering it, because Israel keeps pressuring us to stem the tide of human trafficking entering its territories. We already have FOUR fucking MILLION Sudanese and Somali refugees in Egypt, and you say we’re racist? We’ve given up more than any other country to support our neighbor refugee populations and what do we get in return? NOTHING

    Criticized by Israel.
    Criticized by the US
    Criticized by the EU
    Criticized by the Palestinians
    Criticized by the Arab Street
    Criticized by the African Street

Give me a fucking break. Kick the AFricans out.

Hey Egypt is taking orders for Israel to shoot the niggers!!!! Damn Patrick…that is beautiful…fucking pitiful…but I just love it…

“Hey Ahmed…Chaim says we have to shoot the darkies”.

“Ahwad habibi…you know…we always have to do whatever the Jews tell us!”

I love it…my laugh for the night…or should I cry?

    On a more serious note….

Israel has asked Egypt for much more important things…like stemming the flow of Bedouin and Palestinian smuggling of weapons, bomb material, money etc. from Egypt to Gaza…

Now…they will shoot unarmed Sudanese because Israel is real upset about the unarmed Sudanese…but do very little to nothing about the smuggling…which is a much more serious issue…?

And Israel wants these Sudanese beaten and shot? You really gonna blame Israel for that behavior?

I imagine there are agreements about the border…but we have a bit more to fear from APG’s and bomb belts and AK-47’s then some starving Darfurians…

Patrick…it is a cruel mess…that I grant you…and I know Israel does some dumb shit too…but this one…don’t blame us for this one.

The Israelis are responsible for the deaths of Sudanese refugees at the hands of trigger-happy Egyptian border guards because we have asked the Egyptians to control the border?

Perhaps it is just me, but how does “stem the flow of illegal immigrants”, necessarily translate into “shoot and kill”? Aren’t there other options? Such as “arrest, without killing”?

I mean, we find them in Israel as well. We don’t kill them. Whether our treatment of the Sudanese refugees is at the level it should be is another question, but it really is not at the “shoot and kill” level.

Sorry, but as an Israeli, I am not quite ready to take responsibility for this number. Back at’cha boys.

In respect to whether the world is doing anything to help, this member of the world community is going to a meeting next week to see what she can do.

The insinuation by SM and most of the commenters is that Egyptian border guards have this instinctive reaction to kill Sudanese as they’re entering the country. They don’t. This is an isolated incident. Second off, there is very little patrolling of the Egyptian-Sudanese border and very little monitoring of the Sudanese refugee population is Egypt (who are here legally according to the traitorous Four Freedoms Act signed between Egypt and Sudan), Egyptians have been so so so hospitable to refugees from the South for a very long time, but I think that time has come to an end as they are a strain on our already overextended resources.
We are a poor country. We should not be expected to take care of refugees from sudan, somalia, and palestine when we can’t take care of our own people! We shouldn’t be expected to take responsibility for Gaza or the Israeli border because a much richer, better equipped Israel does not want the responsibility.

To all the Israeli commentators: The Egyptian guards were not keeping these Sudanese out of Egypt (As SM stupidly insinuates) but rather, out of Israel! They were trying to do YOU a favor!

Of course, when Egyptian guards kill an innocent and we don’t know the circumstances it’s because they’re evil/incompetent. When Israeli soldiers do it MUCH MORE OFTEN it’s because the civilians were “asking for it” or they were under so much “stress” and “pressure”

  13. Roman Kalik
    February 1, 2008 at 9:04 am

No, Patrick, SM wasn’t insinuating that Sudanese are shot as they *enter* Egypt, that was simply your take on it. SM was speaking in general. You can claim that he should remember the agreement with Sudan, and that Sudanese that legally enter Egypt weren’t treated badly, but this does not change the obvious difference in how you treat illegal border crossings.

And it wasn’t just an isolated incident. There have been several such reports, not just the more famous one that was videotaped by Israeli border cameras.

Let me see if I get this straight…

The sudanese shot by the egyptian border guards were trying to get OUT of Egypt? And not just out of Egypt to get back home; they were trying to get out of Egypt and enter Israel?

Strange world where muslims leave their (muslim) country behind and flee to a neighbourging (muslim) country because they are persecuted by another muslim minority in the own land, only to face mistreatment from the (muslim) population of the second country, thus trying to cross yet another border to the only non-muslim country in the area, and one that is generally despised by muslims all over the world, only to be shot by the border guards of the second muslim country, who didn’t want the refugees in the first place…?!?!

God, I’m glad I live in Europe! Sure, we have our own little restless corner down in the southeast, but at least their grievances make a little bit of sense! :p

We shouldn’t be expected to take responsibility for Gaza or the Israeli border because a much richer, better equipped Israel does not want the responsibility.

Israel isn’t any more responsible for Gaza than is Egypt. Gaza is now independent and responsible for itself.

About the border, Patrick… Each and every country around the world safeguards its side of its borders. Egypt has no special status that makes it excempt of that.

  17. Patrick
    February 1, 2008 at 9:52 pm

Egypt, for all intensive purposes, safeguards both sides of both borders. Egypt did not benefit from this Sudanese guy dying since he was trying to leave the country. The only country that benefits from this is Israel. The Egyptian guards were following Israeli requests on how Egypt should try and stop illegal immigrant transfer. It would be the same thing if a Mexican border guard accidentally shot and killed a Guatemalan as he was trying to illegally enter the USA. All you right-wingers would probably be rejoicing if that happened, but because the perpetrator of this particular event is Egyptian, somehow he has evil intentions. Ridiculous.

“We live in a world where when Christians kill Muslims, it’s a crusade. When Jews kill Muslims, it’s a massacre. When Muslims kill Muslims, it’s the weather channel. Nobody cares.” – Ambassador Dan Gillerman at a press lunch at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York, 22 May 2007

Patrick, again, each and every country worldwide must prevent people from illegally crossing its borders – in *any* direction. Doing otherwise implies that the state is complicit in the illegal crossings.

When thousands of people can cross one side of the border freely, then someone is sleeping at the guard post. And if the reaction to being asked to stop sleeping at the guard post is to start shooting people, then maybe (instead of insinuating that Israel asked Egypt to please shoot the refugees toot sweet) something is a bit fucked-up when the alternatives are “do nothing” or “shoot ’em up”.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case. There’s so much outrage over Jews killing Palestinians, yet Saddams’s genocidal spectacles barely registered.

Gillerman is a racist son of a b**ch – but the above-mentioned quote holds some truth. Nevertheless, I found ludicrous that some people up here have chosen to throw in religion. Pathetic, really. Add to it that nothing in the news report points at the faith of the two refugees that were shot – for all purposes, they might as well have been sudanese christians or animists. Revise your flimsy arguments before blurting your two thoughts on a keyboard.

As for shooting all refugees crossing into Egypt – give me a break. About 400 refugees cross weekly into Egypt from sub-saharan Africa (300 of which would sign up at UNCHR Cairo, where I used to work). I don’t think all these guys have been shot, have they?

Yes, there are instances where refugees are shot, and these are horrible incidents that should swiftly be dealt with.
And yes, the average Mo on the street expresses more sympathy to Palestinians than to Somalis – why, more in common, shared history, family and racial ties? Forgive people for being human, Sandmonkey.

On a completely different note – Gosh, it’s good to have a decent internet connection again!

As a United Statesian whose tax dinars have contributed to this mess, I once jokingly suggested to deport all the Palestinians to Bosnia. I have also commented to Israeli friends, how can a people who were treated that way by Hitler turn around and treat Palestinians that way. I guess if you can de-humanize a group, then anything is possible?
Why cant we all just get along? An eye for an eye leaves us all blind.

In short, Partition was proposed by a neutral international body as a solution to the competing claims of the various people involved. This solution was accepted by the “evil Zionists”, but rejected by the “peace-loving Arabs”, who prefered a war of extermination. They lost. The rest is history.
