Magdi Allam is so dead..

The Egyptian-italian man who was heavily  critical of Islam and an unequivocal Israel Supporter in Italy has decided to convert to catholicism on Easter, by the Pope himself. Yeah. Hmm..well, if there any catholics reading this blog, this might be the time to pray for that guy. He will need it!

Comments

  1. I hope his police escort is among the best: in the past Italian police escorts have failed miserably in protecting high profile personalities from terrorists or mafia attacks.

On the other hand, this will be used by anti-muslim, anti-immigration as propaganda against the muslim world by La Lega del Nord (the Northern League, a separatist, racist party).

  2. Welcome back Sam.

  3. I thought it would be the Pope that is ‘so dead’. Bin laden was just saying that the Pope is to blame for much of the umma’s woes did he not? Then he goes and does a high profile baptism like that. OY!

  4. Anon 1:50 says:

Allam is the big winner here.

If he lives, it will be as a beacon of freedom to all Muslims who want to follow their hearts and minds and, if they are led by God, to convert.

If he dies at the hands of an assassin, Islam will be blamed, vilified and humiliated as cowardly and fearful of other religions. It will be said that force has to be used to keep followers of Islam. That it is not truly a religion, but a form of slavery.

Either way Allam will end up in heaven. Christianity will win, Islam will lose.

  5. Taher Selim says:

You know what guyz, we don’t have to give any attention to people like Magdi Allam cuz we don’t want them to get famous through a propaganda that we could unintentionally perform.

What a preposterous person you are Anon, you are talking about freedom of religions and Islam should tolerate people who convert than you say: “Either way Allam will end up in heaven. Christianity will win, Islam will lose”
I think someone else rather than Allam should be assassinated.

  6. Secret Agent X-9 says:

Those that believe that it is their responsibility to enforce “God’s will” are making the assumption that God want’s them to do that. When people call for killing someone because they changed their religion, they are acting like medieval barbarians. Everyone should be free to choose to believe or not believe in whatever they want.

  7. christina/ohio says:

I truely believe that this was the Pope’s way of waving the finger to Osama after the threat he made towards Rome. I do beleive that anyone should be able to choose their religion or not choose one. I am Catholic so another convert is a good thing. :) Happy Easter to those who celebrate it.

  8. Anon 1:50 says:

    Yes.

Isn’t it odd that Taher Selim does not disagree that force must be used to keep Islam’s followers, nor that it is a form of slavery, only that it is “ridiculous for Islam to tolerate people who convert.”

He (predictably) suggests that “Someone else rather than Allam should be assassinated” for saying so.

Why is murder the first and only answer that ever seems to come from the “Religion of Peace”?

  9. Secret Agent X-9 says:

Anon, Taher did not say it was “ridiculous for Islam to tolerate people who convert”, but “…you are talking about freedom of religions and Islam should tolerate people who convert [then] you say: ‘Either way Allam will end up in heaven. Christianity will win, Islam will lose’” basically pointing out YOUR own bias Anon. You completely misquoted Taher, it wasn’t even close to what you wrote.

I don’t agree with Taher’s next line about assasination, but Taher is correct when pointing out your bias (assuming that was the case and I am not misreading it)

  10. anonymous says:

I personally think the media is stupid and giving this way 2 much attention…who is this guy and WHO GIVES A FUCK IF HE CONVERTED..BIG DEAL…

The guy became catholic..who gives a shit…lots of muslims convert..who cares…just like who cares when christians convert 2 Islam..it doesn’t make headlines now does it?…this guy is not a prominent muslim cuz no one in the Middle East has heard of him..hell here in the West we’ve never heard of him..now if Tariq Ramadan had converted I could understand the fuss..

BUt then I guess the Pope and company can promote the current world agenda of Evil Eastern Islam V. Good Western Christiandom…great agenda that can continue to allow the justification of invasions of these Evil Islamic countries and thereby continuing to ensure that the Good Western Christiandom can secure it’s supply of cheap oil (wth relation to other energy sources) to the Oil guzzling Western nations

  11. anonymous says:

And really Monkey boy..what’s with the sensational headline…

Dead my ass….u just wanna attract readers and comments..good job!

Salman Rushdie still lives…so this guy will be fine..no 1 should care…including yourself!

  12. Anon #10: the rest of the world doesn’t care when a Muslim converts to some other faith up until the point that the convert’s life and limb are threatened by Islamic fanatics who want to punish the apostate in accordance with Sharia, as is too often the case.

As for invading other countries in pursuit of enriching the imperial treasuries while imposing a foreign religious ideology, Islam wrote the book on that, from the Iberian peninsula to the islands of the South Pacific, spreading a poor facsimile of Judaism thta only came into being because the date farming Jews of the Hejaz preferred their old faith to following a self-declared prophet 1400 years ago.

Anon#11: If Rushdie still lives, that’s because of the security measures he was able to avail himself of. His Japanese instructor was considerably less fortunate.

  13. Marianne says:

    Oh Oh….

  14. I’m sure this won’t go unnoticed by Al Qaida!

  15. In respect to the “Christianity will win, Islam will lose” take…. I do not want to speculate on Allam’s chances of getting into heaven (am Jewish, and so do not care–will let y’all duke it out among yourselves). However, from a PR standpoint, Anon has a point. For Christianity, this is a win-win situation. They either get a high-profile convert or a high-profile martyr.

  16. Taher Selim says:

Altough I didnt mention that, Of course I don’t agree with the point “that force must be used to keep Islam’s followers, nor that it is a form of slavery”.

What about people who believe that they will go to heaven because they believe in a certain religion while others will not. Aren’t they ridiculous?

  17. The Nightfly says:

#15, They are ridiculous (all religions are stupid), but as previously mentioned, apostasy in Islam is punishable by death. And you just advocated the assassination of a non-muslim for expressing his/her religious views. You certainly don’t make the case for a peaceful and non-violent Islam.

Also sandmonkey, the more attention this is given, the more likely this man will end up dead. :/

  18. Adrian from Denmark says:
  19. This Pope needs a good retirement package from the vatican.

  20. Oh….and Just FYI there are many muslim converts in Egypt that goes around in churches to preach and tell people about their conversion. I know three families that are not dead yet.

  21. Eva, Canada says:

…I think someone else rather than Allam should be assassinated…

Oh, yes, by now we are quite used to this way of thinking. It makes Islam sooo popular! Think of it when you next complain of islamophobia.

  22. Lynne T.: I’d hell rather have lived under the Moors in the Iberian peninsula than under the Catholics who re-conquered it afterward. So would any Christian or Jew with an ounce of sense.

If you don’t like the idea of us non-Christians equating you with the Inquisition or the Nazis (Hitler was a Catholic and the Pope at that time ignored the Holocaust) or the American fundamentalist movement and need I go on, then you can stop pretending that those of bin Laden’s ilk are the sum total of Islam.

By the way, in the Qur’an where it talks about what is translated in English as “apostates,” what is really meant are people who not only leave the faith but then betray Muslim believers. Muhammad had to deal with a few of those in his day and as the ummah was still very small at that time and vulnerable to annihilation, they had to take threats from former insiders very seriously.

Not that it can’t be translated to the present day, so that someone who leaves Islam and then helps to kill Muslims, well, he knows what punishment God has laid out for him, and too bad for him.

  23. Oh, and also, don’t equate peace with non-violence, if you define violence as the use of force regardless of the cause or purpose. For example, if you consider self-defense violence–some people do. This is an important distinction, because Islam does not teach to turn the other cheek when someone harms you. This is where people in the West are going bugshit because they’ve been indoctrinated into the “turn the other cheek” philosophy. Which is hilarious, because since when has Christianity ever turned the other cheek? At minimum Christians go around telling nonbelievers they’re going to hell. At worst Christians go around killing those not like themselves. And yes, even in modern times there are Christians who do that and who want to do that. Look up the Dominionist movement for an example of what I mean.

Which is worse, to fight back because your religion tells you to, or to fight back despite what your religion tells you?

And Jesus also said, “I come not to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34)

  24. Taher Selim says:

Guyz, Apostasy law in Islam is formed to protect this religion from spiteful people. It is applied over a group of people who convert to Islam and then convert to their previous faith in order to make people doubt and suspect about Islam.

Gila says that “For Christianity, this is a win-win situation. They either get a high-profile convert or a high-profile martyr.” I think that Christianity does not have a win-win situation. It is not a game, there is one man who converted to Christianity, what is the problem, it is not a war between Christianity and Islam.

Eva, why you criticized me and didn’t criticize Anon for saying that only Christians will go to heaven? Who suffer from islamophobia in that case?

  25. “it is not a war between Christianity and Islam”

    You are kidding, right?

How about this. Why don’t we all become agnostic and nobody will have to die then.

  26. I Blame the Parents says:

    Someone

Which is hilarious, because since when has Christianity ever turned the other cheek?

Good point. If they had, they would all be speaking Arabic.

  27. Anonymous

    Who wrote

thereby continuing to ensure that the Good Western Christiandom can secure it’s supply of cheap oil (wth relation to other energy sources) to the Oil guzzling Western nations

Eh? It’s not Westerners who are able live in palaces and sit on gold plated toilets as a result of the oil trade.

  28. Sewage Soup says:

wow they interuppted the Italian TV to broadcast the news of his baptism… if Muslims did that for every almost-famous washed-up celebrity who converts to Islam… they wouldn’t have anymore air-time left to broadcast bin laden videos.

Anyway, converting from Islam to Catholicism, it’s like substituting a big delusion for a bigger one! I heard this guy made a lot of dough from Islamophobic writings, could it be mmmmmm… but oh no we don’t wanna stirr up a concpiracy theory down this road.

  29. RocketRay says:

If it is indeed true in Islam that “there is no compulsion in religion”, when did this man choose to be muslim?

  30. Eva, Canada says:

    Taher Selim Says:
…Eva, why you criticized me and didn’t criticize Anon for saying that only Christians will go to heaven? Who suffer from islamophobia in that case?..

Dear Taher, I don’t care who goes where after death. I’m however concerned with the fact that guys like you would casually wish death on someone because of their religious views. If that makes you feel good and just, then you are a monster. Besides, if I had my way, I’d make bonfire and all the bibles, korans and thoras and then I’d say: “Now, folks, let’s start over!”

  31. Eva,

You obviously have problem with religion but being disrespectful to other people holy books shows how you are a monster also, you are not better or more civilized than any Muslim, Jew, Christian radical that will burn flags and threaten others because they dislike what they believe in.

    Just an observation.

  32. brooklynjon says:

    Twosret,

Atheism and Secular Humanism are religions, too, and are also meritorious of respect (at least sort of).

I don’t necessarily believe that anything should get burned, but I’d have to say that presuming something DID have to get burned, I’d rather it be a holy book than an unholy person. Universal respect for religions is a great idea, but let’s first have universal respect for people, then we can work our way up to respect for religions.

    bj

  33. Twosret;

Monsters burn people, not books. Some perspective please.

  34. Well, people who deals with things they don’t like by burning them are aggressive enough and in my opinion are disrespectful. I’m not discussing burning people here.

Enough of those non-religious people disrespect to religious people we have had enough with them. They discriminate against people of the books and if anyone say a word to them then they discriminated against.

Enough of this shit really. She is just full of shit that is all and I don’t respect someone who say that one bit.

She is no different of any radical in my books.

  35. *then they claim they are discriminated against*

  36. I don’t think the Spanish agreed about Al Andalus. They fought for 700 years for their freedom. We welcome Allam to Catholicism. I pray that he lives long and prospers.

  37. For the people denying discriminaion in Egypt and the Arab world against christian.. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong..but ask yourself what the “BlueBone” expression comes from? Why religion is on the passport or ID cards? how many Copt are accepted in politics and government positions regarless of their qualifications..I mean regardless..Totally!!

  38. Saba7o 5ara says:

    snoby:

how many Copt are accepted in politics and government positions regarless of their qualifications..I mean regardless..Totally!!

Well, how many Muslims are accepted in politics and government positions in the US or Europe regardless of their qualifications? Well, I know one in the US and maybe Two in France and three or four in the UK… can you guess out of how many millions of qualified Muslims who live there? They even made a fuss and spent many sleepless nights when Keith Ellison’s oath was taken on the Koran not the bible.

Off topic: I wanna ask some christians preferably Egyptian ones who defended the freedom of speech on the Danish Cartoons and the Dutch Film dissin’ the prophet…. Wouldn’t you be mad if some Muslim Egyptian artist decided to draw Jesus Christ on a dog’s body or draw jesus with a dildo stuck up his arse and some prominent newspaper decided to publish it in the name of!!
Wouldn’t you be mad if some Muslim filmmaker decided to make a movie about child molesting priests whether Orthodox or Catholic (they both have long record of that) and portray it as it is some sort of a Christian ritual or part of the theology… I’m sure many of you remember what happened to the Journalist who made a report about the Coptic priest who made so many home sex videos with his congregation ladies! You rioted for a month and the newspaper was shutdown the owners and their families were threatned and and you pushed till the owner and the reporter were arrested received a jail sentence!

  39. Eva, Canada says:

You are so right, Twosret, I do have problem with religion as do an increasing number of agnostics, atheists and other non-religious people who have to put up with all this holy craziness that has seized the world. The non-religious groups desire nothing except for an environment of relative sanity. We watch with dismay as that environment is being increasingly disturbed by self-centered religionists an their incessant demands for respect and calls for retribution. We are sick and tired of groups that demand respect for their alleged superiority and then behave like a bunch of murderous thugs. That undeserved respect is not coming, of that you can be sure. Have a nice day!

  40. Saba7o 5ara,

We are speaking about Muslim Egyptians living with Christian Egyptians… which means that both must be entitled to same rights in the same country. What you were mentioning is about Europeans or Americans having Arab Muslims, which is not even a comparison between both situations!
That’s exactly what the whole discussion is all about, Muslims want to invade the world through marriage, immigration etc… when they fail, they use violence!
Then the main discourse is, we are using peace and talk…
When Snoby wrote, he wrote about coptic people and their rights… please think if Moslem Brothers, who are committed to Islam and Sharia, rule Egypt, what do you think those peaceful non-violent just people will do to their Christian brothers????? Just give it a thought, and tell me, will they allow them to take part in the government, will they have the right to even vote? will they have any right at all.
To tell you the truth, NOW I am 100% with Mubarak’s regime, at least he is much more better than those who take religion as an excuse to kill.

  41. Anon at 42,
How brain washed and easily misled could you be that you believe that someone who leaves his country and family whether this someone is going to teach at Stanford or work at a 7/11, is doing that because their aim is ” to invade the world through marriage, immigration etc… when they fail, they use violence!”, that’s really beyond retarded.

  42. Well Mohamed at 43, what do you think about people exploding themselves to kill others???? I think this much more beyond retarded… specifically when they start recruiting women to do so nowadays!!! this beyond beyond retardation and below humanity!!!!

  43. and again you bring us out of track…. I was commenting mainly on Egyptian Christians living with Egyptian Muslims without being entitled to equal rights!!!!!!!
And you didn’t answer the question: what if the Muslim Brothers rules Egypt, what will be the destiny of the 14% living since 1700 years in Egypt????????????

  44. Anon @ 44,
Still, what does this have to do with people immigrating to other countries for better opportunities? Try to be rational and not to mix and confuse everything and every issue in one easy and satisfying explanation that conveniently fits your preconcieved prejudices, you’re using the same logic (or lack thereof) used by the same sociopaths who brought you the Iraq war, this logic is “Al Qaeda hit America, let’s invade Iraq, they’re all the same sub humans and who cares anyway”.

  45. 1) Muslims are not barred from US Office. We just don’t prefer them because like many muslims they are incompetent and let there Quran do the thinking instead of there head.

    2) The Moors where tyrants and there is no justifications for them being there to begin with. They where the invaders and to date muslim run countries are shit holes. And to date islam has only expanded through Conquests and the Inquisition was a justified means to cleanse the heresy of islam from the Christian world. It seems Muslims all suffer from a collective Stockholm Syndrome. Let us not forget that Muslim berbers have been kidnapping people for slavery since the 1812. Your all just pissy that a relatively young country (USA) has humiliated an OLD Islamic empire. God has been humiliating Allah for centuries it seems. The western world should push Islam back to its origins. in a A cave in Arabia.

    3) Christianity IS good in principle and Islam is Evil in principle deny it all you like nothing says tolerance than Surah 9

    4) Let this man enjoy his freedom to choose on whatever that he believes in and let the Muslims enjoy the dark ages a bit longer. We know exactly what they will be like with out the western world. A bunch of camel ridding nomads with no future.

  46. Dear Shinto,
In order to be objective: I am Christian, I am coming from a minority in my country, but to tell you the truth, not all Moslems are like you say… I don’t respect anyone carrying a gun or a sword in the name of a religion…. sometimes, Christians are doing the same in the name of God, while Jesus all he asked was Love, and Saint Paul said :”If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13
I have been in Europe and I know what Muslims do, concerning marriages I am definite…
No body can deny what is happening in the Arab Muslim world against Christians, but at the same time, I have Muslim friends who are more than brothers and sisters.
Still real Muslim answered my question… if real Muslims or Muslim Brothers ruled Egypt under Sharia’, what will they do with the 14% Egyptians???? Will they allow them to build churches? will they entitle them to be part of the regime? will they give them the right to the freedom of faith??? will they let Christian women walk in the streets without veil???? will they give Christians the freedom of expression? will they allow artists, musicians, …to express their art? What will happen if real Islam prevails???? What the world will become???? I need an honest answer by a true Muslim!

  47. someone,

Lynne T.: I’d hell rather have lived under the Moors in the Iberian peninsula than under the Catholics who re-conquered it afterward. So would any Christian or Jew with an ounce of sense.

Why would you say that? If you are going to say it’s because Jews and Muslim were persecuted in Spain, well… duh… it was illegal on pain of death to be anything but a Christian in Spain after the reconquista.

Spain did quite well after 1492, and was a global power for hundreds of years afterwards. Your comment makes very little sense to me.

    Twosret,

You obviously have problem with religion but being disrespectful to other people holy books shows how you are a monster also…

I see you’ve started getting abusive again while I was gone, eh? :P

This Pope needs a good retirement package from the vatican.

Is this how you show respect to Catholics? This Pope was just elected a few years ago. You aren’t Catholic. How is it any of your business?

  48. And Jesus also said, “I come not to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34)

What a gross mis-characterization of the intent of that passage. You should be ashamed of yourself, “someone” – particularly since you just accused people of misinterpreting the Quran in the same comment.

  49. “Monsters burn people, not books. Some perspective please.”

Monsters do burn books, burning people comes right after that.

  50. CarpetCaptain says:

Who gives a shit what religion MAgdy Allam is? In fact before his conversion i had never heard of the man. I do however tip my hat to him for having the courage to do what he wanted knowing full well that the islamfascists are going to target him.

Why are muslims always so concerned about how many people join team Mohammad on earth and noone ever keeps a count of team 72 virgins in the afterlife? This us against them mentality is a reflection of the minds of the majority of the islamic leadership and how it shapes thoe young mindless generations.

  51. You had admittedly never heard of him because you are just ignorant, CarpetCaptain, and that’s hardly a note of merit.

  52. Any woman living in a Muslim woman muts wera veil, the Muslims compel it! There is no freedom there. I will never convert to Islam. Islma, because it is intolerant, will never convert all other nations.
